  • This is a good bottle, although not at the level of the best Napa wines, and certainly not good enough to justify its price. The wine is starting to open up, not near full maturity, but it no longer seems primary and disjointed. On the nose, black cherry, cola, tar, mushrooms, toffee. The palate is slightly awkward, with the fruit ripeness set against a somewhat sharp tannic and acidic edge. To me this expresses the site well, but the difficulty of the vintage is evident too. A bit bitter on the finish. I would drink it now, with charcoal-grilled rare meat, BBQ, other assertively flavored dishes.

  • Deep red color, plum and leather smell. Very nice body with long legs. Taste of coffee, chocolate and leather.

  • Finessed and feminine at first, the 2011 Melbury quickly gained momentum and berth in the glass, as it displayed ripe red fruits with layers of cinnamon spice, cedar box, and candied violet. On the palate, I found silky textures infused with red currant with hints of sweet herbs and minerals. The finish was long, showing ripe cherry offset beautifully by a pulse of vibrant acidity.
