Reviewing 2009 Barolo (2nd Event) (Mario's House - Madrid): A beautiful expression of Cannubi for a great tasting start. On the nose aristocratic aromas (cherry, tar and wilted petals of red roses) are presented with precision and good taste. The real show takes place in the mouth with an endless abundance, velvety tannins and an amazing length. An elegant and well-elaborated Barolo.

Medium-dark ruby color with slight orange edge. A little medicinal on the nose. Palate is cherry with some fine tannins. Decent finish has some common notes with port but less alcoholic. Good wine, but not great. Served with braised short ribs ragu over pappardelli.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA): Crimson core with orange rim; burnt orange on the nose, roses, cedar, smells like there will be some wood tannin; softer on entry, medicinal cherry, wild strawberry, then dry, short finish cut off by bitter wood tannin; others loved this earlier in the evening (I believe it got #2) but ones like this worry me about the vintage, with extended air many seem to dry out even though they are relatively soft floral and fruity and seemingly young when first opened.

Tuesday Night Double Blind Tasting, $40+ (Bin 75): Another great nose, lighter color, has to be Nebbiolo. Purity of fruit stands out here too. Has tannin, but not too fierce, so thought it had some more age. Nope, this is just how some '09s are drinking I think. My #2 wine of the night.

First taste of Luigi Einaudi. Very nice wine. Let it breathe for approx 3,5 hours. Very powerful, still a bit acid though. Smooth.. Will develop for the better within 2-3 years.

Empson Tasting (Bin 75): Sandy, pent up, high toned, seamless and delicious palate, singular as is usually the case but this was much more accessible, great depth.
