I haven't tasted a Burgundy like this before. The 2012 Burgundy comes from a cool vintage, yet it emits the aroma of ripe fruits, along with intense spice notes, and even hints of spiciness. Upon opening, it exhibits high acidity and feels a bit subdued. Gradually, it reveals refined spice flavors with a certain complexity that makes me forget the original taste of Clos Vougeot.
A serious, dense and well-composed wine. Already showing some earthy complexity but it’s just a glimpse of what this should become with another 5-10 years.

First slightly closed, but opened up some more in the glass. Elegant and later also complex notes of sweet spices, savory herbs, some sweet red and dark red berries, crushed flowers, dried meats and some darker minerality. It's medium-full bodied (it put on weight with some more air), with excellent persistence without being heavy, has medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin that is present but very good quality. Excellent length. A benchmark Clos de Vougeot from this great producer. I would still give this a few more years in bottle. (95+)

Having previously had the 2012 Suchots and Beauxmont, I was very sceptical to H-N, but purchased this anyway. I'm glad I did. Lovely spice, slightly tart in a great way and with lovely strawberries. Fuller than the Suchots and Beauxmonts, yet elegant and light. I would have guessed Vosne. Terrific. 95+. Drank this over 4-5 days. Drink young or store many years. Lost a bit of charm after 3-4 days.

Light garnet. Delicate nose of red fruit primarily with spices, a touch of animalic scents emerging as well. The palate is thinner and less fruity than the impressive 2010. Very elegant wine overall, good material beneath. Since the aromas have not yet developed any of those great Noellat CdV signature secondary flavors I would wait till 2020 before drinking this. 94-95

Restaurant Fitzgerald (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Opening with a great spread of vibrant red-fruit, on the palate very well balanced with silky tannins, elegant red fruit and refreshing acidity on the finish.

Leiden in Rotterdam: Nose a bit closed, red fruit, a bit stemmy, some iron tones. Taste open, very fresh, very distinguished acids, complex red fruit flavours, medium body, long finish.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. One of the tougher wines to assess today. Floral and spice driven start with very powerful and concentrated array of cherry aromas. Also a powerhouse on palate, but with some overt new oak that will need time. I can see that Charles is really attempting to step up the quality of this cuvee and the raw materials in bottle are extremely promised, even if not in perfect harmony today.

2015 La Paulée Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): In same restrained style as the other wines. Medium body, lighter than the Vosne Suchots but with similar tart red fruit and slightly grainy tannins. Again, refined but needs a little more oomph.

Tasted blind. Light bodied, lovely nose of vanilla, cured meat, soft and elegant. This will be a very elegant CdV.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Spicy, earthy, tart cherry fruit. Creamy on the palate with sous bois, earthy, raspberry. Very good, but I liked the Suchots more. Nose -5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

2014 La Paulee Grand Tasting (New York): Lighter body, very pretty medium cherry, some oak, good structure. A more elegant Vougeot.

Day Four in Burgundy: Anne Gros, Hudelot-Noellat, Dujac and Drouhin (Cote d'Or): Barrel tasting at domaine. Very close to finishing ML. Meaty, dense and slightly backward, giving this a powerful and brooding character. Good background spice along with robust, mostly black fruit. Very good potential here.
