Nowhere near as sweet as a Huet Moelleux, but it makes for a fantastic pairing for most dishes. Lots of acid and stonefruit with just a touch of botrytis on the finish. Very cool.

Well balanced, I'd say sec tender at this point. Less distinctive than prior bottles but still drinks well and a nice match for mildly dry-rubbed pork ribs.

Similar in style to an off-dry Vouvray or Montlouis, but with frisky Romorantin character rather than the lanolin of Chenin Blanc. Good acidity. makes it a refreshing summer sipper but it also was a good match with Persian eggplant dishes and chicken kebabs. Drink or hold.

Poogan's Porch @ James Beard (James Beard House in NYC): Prob one of the more interesting wines of the night. Poured into little sherry glasses. This is actually much less sweet than I expected. Much more in a slightly off-dry style. A bit more sherry-like in nature. The pecan pie was quite sweet and the approach here seemed to be to pick a wine with less sweetness so they weren't competing.
This is very good. Tight and very lively on the first day, quite sweet but the acidity is really bright. 2 days later it was smoother and more open, with a real pear note to the fruit. Not as complex or refined as Huet, but needs less age and even better value.

Mucho vino at the 15th annual birthday jeebus. (Joe's.): A bit less intense and less sweet than previous vintages. There's a more pronounced mineral character than usual with the fruit more in the background. Brisk acidity with quince, citrus and some herbal tones. The red fruit is there, but much less apparent than in other vintages. Seems a bit more streamlined and lighter than usual. I expected more, but it's still quite enjoyable and I'm curious to see where this wine goes with some time on it. Solid B+.

This is the strangest thing. The label says Moelleux (something I don;t remember in earlier vintages), and the wine feels maybe like a feinherb Riesling in sweetness - not terribly sweet. That's because the acidity is so vibrant and balancing. On day 1 there is a chalky feeling to the finish and on day 2 the wine is positively marine in character - reminds me of Chablis on the nose in many ways. The palate is herbal and chalky and very well balanced. Very lovely wine, full of character.
paired this with my wife's killer chicken marbella, but it didn't quite work (good with the prunes but not the olives). Still, a great wine and we finished the bottle. I am confident that this will be amazing in a decade or so, but I am equally confident that my stash won't last that long. Stunning.
An extraordinary vintage for this wine. Cazin truly nails it here. An utterly gorgeous expression of Romorantin, delicious now in all of its youthful freshness and vigor, but still only a glimpse of the honeyed, complex thing it will become with time. All of the components that you want in an off-dry Loire white are present here in a perfectly balanced package: a gentle kiss of sweetness that gets "squee-gee"d away with a saline wash of citrusy acidity and freshness, along with the kind of ripeness that still manages to communicate a dewy purity and stony mineral core. I can't sing this wine's praises highly enough, and at $20 this represents an almost embarrassing value. I'm nearly tempted to say that this compares favorably with some of Huet's wines of the same vintage (granted, not the same thing, but the level of quality seems comparable). Drink one now, marvel at the structure and potential, and then lay down the rest of the case.

As lovely as ever, and one to age. Would love to revisit this in a decade or so.

Why is this labelled as moelleux? Bangin' on day 2 & 3.

Gorgeous wine, lovely balance of acidity and sugar and fruit and mineral, not too much of any.
