Great bottle wine. Had enough length and depth over the last seven years. Still had dark fruit and tannins present, but with subtle nuances that allowed for a much more delicate style of wine. Recommend highly

Terrific example of CA pinot. Black cherry, ripe or jam, on the nose, plus cedar, black pepper/spice. Plus some floral notes. Soft tannins and medium or medium plus acid. Really easy to drink with and without food. Big, dark, 14.5% alcohol. Yummy, but I think there are similarly great CA pinots that don't cost this much.

Loads of black cherry and currant on the nose which continues in the mouth with the addition of plum. Spice dominates the layered finish. Just amazing...

Two miles north of the Confluence vineyard in the head of the Anderson Valley, the Gowan Creek Vineyard sees appreciably more coastal fog. The unique terroir of this site brings together elements from both the valley's warmer regions and its cooler, northern "deep end". Offering an ideal Southwestern exposure and an array of unique vineyard blocks, Gowan Creek is planted to eight different different Pinot clones, each carefully tailored to a specific site and soil type. The powerful and expressive wine produced from these vines displays beautiful inky depth and robust, untamed fruit flavors. 100% french oak, 16 mo in barrel. Bottled Feb 2013. This is both a blockbuster Pinot and a wine that will reward patience. The effusive bouquet offers alluring dark fruits, a myriad of spices and hints of French oak. The palate features the signature elements of this pedigree vineyard: deep, dark Santa Rosa plum, black currant, dark chocolate, cinnamon and pennyroyal. As it opens up, every sip gains nuance and complexity, revealing layers of sandalwood, cedar and Tahitian vanilla bean. Though ripe and sweet, the substantial tannins will reward cellaring.

All Estate fruit. 18 months in French oak. Cherry aromas are heavily influenced by barrel notes with scents of vanilla, baking spice and brown sugar with cola, toast and flowers weaving into the mix. On the palate, ripe, full and fleshy with flavors of cassis, raspberry, cherry cola, vanilla and baking spices. Voluptously textured with balanced acidity and density. The finish is long and smooth.

At first, DZ noted that it was acidic along the sides of the mouth, creamy; I thought it was dry along the roof of the mouth. Nose of faint red fruit. Opaque, almost black. Nice legs. My thought was that the tannins were too raw, strong: maybe the drink-by date should have been later, to let it integrate. At very least it needed a long decanting. Very dry, a bit acidic the second night. Dry on the palate; soft palate acidic. Fruity but not sweet. Passable, but we were disappointed. I suspect we got a flawed bottle, give the reactions of other community members.

Chicago Pinot Days (Navy Pier - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. More intense and powerful vs the Anderson Valley blend, but less complete and nuanced. Shows some heat on finish.

I really wanted to love this Wine. It is in my opinion more restrained than other Cali pinots, palette probably influenced by prior wine.
