Year end dinner pairing wine. Opened 2 hrs before the dinner, and enjoyed for 2 hrs. Glamorous floral nose like walking in flower garden, with intense berries. Really well expressed character in nose and long, long finish. Mid acidity, thick and quite powerful in palate. Just good enough now.

My last bottle of four. As is so often the case with Aubert Pinots, the fruit is intense and lovely. The wine improved in the glass over a couple of hours (I kept two glasses as that from which I was sipping was hard to resist). I'm not sure how kind time will be to this, but who cares - I'm happy to move on the next vintage

Big and fruity, a crowdpleaser that's better than most California Pinot Noir but not my cup of tea so to speak. I'd be curious to try again in a decade just to see if time brings more complexity, but I'm not curious enough to put it in my cellar to find out.

wow. had this side by side with a 2008 elivette spring mountain cab. this was far ahead; just the right amount of bright fresh cranberry fruit with enough acidity to balance the new world profile; def big and masculine and very CA pinot; but a really sublime expression of that and very enjoyable with our dinner. very surprised it wasnt past its prime; felt lucky that this bottle seemed at its peak

Top notch nicely done refined Pinot. Nice acidity, floral lift, cola on the nose. Beautiful bottle. Violets on the palette. Have had better bottles of Aubert, but this is great bottle. See how this develops. This bottle is perfect for a five star Michelin or suit and tie dinner with a significant other. Nice wine and the fine structure is amazingly beautiful.

Beautiful aromas of mixed fruits permeated the air as soon as the cork popped out of the bottle. Interestingly, the wine then mostly closed after an hour of decanting, and came back to life with more decanting. I wonder if it would be even better to pour it straight from the bottle for slow drinking.
Classic Aubert Pinot - a mix of red and black currant, smooth structure, at peak of maturity.

Ruby red and a bit cloudy. Let this air for about an hour. Well balanced with just enough acidity. Cherry and raspberry on the palate with a hint of smoke and clove. I have had the other Aubert single vineyards and find them to be a lighter Burgundian style. This UV-SL had more of a new world, Sta. Rita Hills profile going but still very good.

Birthday dinner with Valerie and Meredith, last bottle of this designate. Decanted 3 hours prior to drinking.
Prior notes: "Medium ruby, cloudy. Nose showing dark red cherries, baking spices. Ripe and viscous plate showing stewed strawberry, raspberry, cola and black plum. Tannins fined and silky, full body (by Pinot standard) and long finish."
This bottle more settled than last, did not pick up as much heat on this tasting. Decant is a must with Aubert Pinot, in my experience. This showed well, notably earthy through the mid palate. Red fruits and floral notes still going strong. In a good place, not sure if it will improve but should drink at this level for a while

Beautiful wine. Cool climate nose of red/black fruits, forest and dried florals. My bottle was well balanced and while the alcohol was noticeable it was not overpowering. Red fruits and spice on the palate. Very nice wine at a good place but lacking some of the extra layers of flavors/earthiness you might get from your favorite terroir in Burgundy.

A neighborhood socially distanced wine happy hour...Decanted for 2 hours prior to drinking.
Prior notes"Medium ruby, cloudy. Nose showing dark red cherries, baking spices. Ripe and viscous plate showing stewed strawberry, raspberry, cola and black plum. Tannins fined and silky, full body (by Pinot standard) and long finish."
Picked up a bit more heat with this bottle? May have just been where it was when drinking. I have found Aubert Pinot will evolve quite a bit during the first few hours...seemed to blow off later.
Should continue to drink at this level for a few more years. Stand up bottle in advance and decant is a must...

15.2% abv. Dark garnet crimson color. Expressive nose of dark cherries, spice, eucalyptus. Intense, super ripe and compelling, this wine shows juicy acidity coupled with still present tannins that speak to extended maceration and new oak treatment of this vintage. In mouth, a textural richness and lengthy finish that is hard to compete with when it comes to CA Pinots. I can picture Mark Aubert concentrating on his craft when I taste this wine. Very, very good.
Day 2: even better, tannins more prominent but enjoyably mouth coating. More earthy mushroom notes on the nose and strawberry jam on the palate. Raised rating to 95. Powerful, yet classy wine.

An exceptional bottle. One of the first Aubert’s I purchased off the list. Intoxicating aromas on the nose of cherry, spice box, and a hint of darker plum and Earth. Great flavors of cherry and spices on the palate. Exquisite bottle. Glad I have two more to get around to tasting.

Garnet and opaque, very concentrated flavors, plenty of fruit and not much tannin. Medium aroma of dark fruits. Very concentrated for a pinot noir, one-dimensional. We preferred the Walter Hansel North Slope, much more complex, elegant, and interesting. Ric

A blousy boozey candied wine at 15.2% ABV. After two glasses, I immediately had a headache. This wine is a hot mess. Bought six years ago when I first forayed into their chards. An expensive memory of life before I saw the light and migrated to European wines.

Started with an overwhelming chalkiness but that faded into more typical Sonoma fruit on the nose with some time in the glass. Plenty of fruit on the palate with a touch of minerality. As others have said, very rich mouthfeel and texture. Interesting Sonoma Pinot.

In OCNJ with Valerie and extended family. Good excuse to check in on this bottle. Decanted and rebottled about 90 minutes prior to drinking. First red of the evening.
Medium ruby, cloudy. Nose showing dark red cherries, baking spices. Ripe and viscous plate showing stewed strawberry, raspberry, cola and black plum. Tannins fined and silky, full body (by Pinot standard) and long finish.
The crowd really liked this wine. Well made, I am guessing this is in the middle of its prime drinking years. This has aged nicely and become more elegant with age, bottles tasted years ago (from memory) were a bit more sappy. Stylistically, interesting to pose these (and other CA Pinot) versus Oregon (or Burgundy). Sometimes this will split the crowd on preference - both can be great (IMO) but appeal in very different ways. The decant helped with this bottle, give it an hour in venue allows...

Fabulous pinot, at its peak! Dark and completely opaque. Powerful nose of raspberries, reminded me of a Grange. Sweet red and black fruit flavors, pronounced and mouth-coating. No significant tannin. Lots of fruit, very long aftertaste. One of the best pinots in recent memory. Should easily stay at this peak another few years. Ric

Good Cali Pinot!! Very smooth, high alcohol content but not noticeable, overall good balance although wish it had more acidity to balance the sweetness. Nose of cherry, raspberry, candy, allspice, slight vanilla and coffee and floral notes. Palate is very balanced, cherry, raspberry, vanilla, chocolate. Medium to long finish. Not much tannins left, I think it’s at peak. Drink now or next 3-4 years.

Dark red. Black cherry, boysenberry fruit. Thick and almost unctuous- this is a bigger style of pinot that skirts the edges of too much of a good thing. Nice balancing minerality- a terrific big boned style of California Pinot.

Medium-large ruby. Pretty nose of raspberries, earth, minerals that fade into candied cherry with some oak, spice and vanilla emerging. Medium body, medium+ acid with medium- tannins. Drinking this Pinot is like listening to music too loudly - sure, the flavors are intense and the power is impressive, but, after a few minutes, it's just too much: too much fruit, too much extraction, too much heaviness. Nose of plum and cough syrup; ruby red in color; heavier in body than many CA Cabernets. Tastes of cherry pie, blackberry, raisin, and vanilla, with a medicinal streak that suggests overripeness. 15.2% alcohol.
To be clear, this is not a matter of personal style: I like - and buy - heavier CA Pinots that I think are done the right way (e.g., Morlet, Peter Michael, Kosta Browne) - but this is not such a wine, especially for the money.

Still quite young but still quite approachable. The wine has some firm acidity that is not over bearing. The wine has ample fruit to show it's California roots. Aubert is one of my favorite producers and this wine is another example of why.

Still quite young but still quite approachable. The wine has some firm acidity that is not over bearing. The wine has ample fruit to show it's California roots. Aubert is one of my favorite producers and this wine is another example of why.
