Upon opening this one was a little rough and not well integrated. After letting it sit on the counter for a few days ( pumped out), it became much more even and enjoyable. Guess it needs more years in the bottle.

Beautiful bouquet with ripe berry fruits and good garrigue. On the palate dark berries as well. Beautifully mild acidity and tannin. Still a lovely and soft bite. 91 – 92

Nose of red fruit, licorice. First glass shows tannins. By the last glass in the bottle, the wine is starting to soften. Needs a little more time on its side, in my opinion.

Last minute late night at Chateau Davyd. Tasted blind. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of Ribena berries, black cherries, brambly spice, meat. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15%), medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberries, dark red cherries, black cherries, sweet spices, kirsch, black and white pepper. Long finish. Very good quality. Guessed as a 2012 Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Spot on correct. Seems to be traditional style, not a lot of modern oak here. Drink now and enjoy over the next 3-4 years as it develops. 65% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 1% other varieties.

A birthday gift from good friends a couple of years ago. Mind blown. Delightful. Caramel and strawberry nose, soft and supple in the mouth, lingering finish leaving you wanting more. I want more. I wish they were better friends, they would have bought me a case.
Tasted next to a 2017 barrel sample. Nicely evolved, open nose, cherry liqueur, fruit cake, spices. On the palate quite fresh with good weight and concentration of fruit. Nice tannic structure, good length, well balanced. Drink or keep. 91-93

Clear, deep ruby color. Aromatics of lavender, rosemary, black currant, blackberry, iron, damp earth. High-toned black fruits and rich secondary depth on the palate - savory spices, crushed stone, dried flowers. Thick and densely structured, with just enough finesse to bring it full circle. Medium acid, fine full dusty tannins, finishing full with hints of earth, cocoa dust and cedar. Excellent, drinking well with a decant.

A very solid effort. High in alcohol, dense in its structure, with cassis, liquorice and dark fruits on the palate. Very satisfying. A wine, though, without charm or complexity, but at a price level where you cannot expect a Beaucastel.

Winery Visit; Domaine la Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France.: The bouquet is a bit locked at the moment. but it shows dark and red berry fruits. On the palate beautifully ripe dark and red berries, plums, laurel, herbs and spices, beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness, soft and round tannin with a pleasant bite and a good concentration. Beautiful wine already and a future of at least 5+ years.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is in more of a supporting role and there is good density to the feel with licorice, black cherries, mesquite, black raspberries, and garrigue notes.
Overall: This is a very good Chateauneuf Du Pape. It shows off a riper and more intense side, but it isn't overdone. There is balance and a black fruited profile with this feeling like it is open to drink now and for the better part of the next deacade.

Showing some lightening in the color, the wine offers a classic garrigue, jammy kirsch and smoke filled nose. Supple, rich, elegant and forward, the finish delivers loads of juicy, sweet cherries and Asian spice characteristics.

Chateauneuf-Du-Pape domaine visits: Tasted at the domaine. Aromas of fig paste, allspice berry, rose hips, raspberry, tea and lavender- complex. Expressive on the palate, with red berry, black tea and rich layers of spice and flowers. Dense in the mid-palate, with thick, silky tannins and a big finish. Excellent.

The nose was remarkably fresh for all the concentration in the glass, literally the best of both worlds. On the nose, I found crushed, ripe red fruits with hints of confectionary spice and gorgeous, lifting floral tones. On the palate, this showed depths of dark red fruits, which were concentrated yet balanced perfectly to result in silky, cool textures. It finished pretty with a grip of fine tannin, spice and tart berry.

Tasted next to the 2013. Less expressive on the nose, quite closed and muted. Again tight on the palate, showing very good structure and length but not much more at this stage. Needs time. 90-92+
