  • Green/gold color; complex and reductive nose with air of soft cheese rind; medium weight slightly oily mouthfeel; savory candle wax with medium melon fruit and crisp acidity. Quite integrated and balanced overall and simultaneously generous and precise. Lovely with a richly sauced dinner as it warms. Definitely checks the "exotic" box in classic FH style and though some will find the wine weird, for me this is a garage rock classic I could keep in my jukebox rotation for a decade or more.

  • Popped and poured. Sweet aroma of apricot nectar. Rich flavors of stone fruit, pear. Some bitterness in the full finish. When first opened this was flat and lifeless, but it quickly opened up.

Vibrant, delicious, firm, some complexity. Unusually smooth for Semillon. Excellent.

  • Hungarian wax peppers and lemon zest. Good acidity and a very long finish. A little green and a bit challenging, but worth the effort.

  • A bright, intense blend of lemony fruit, green peppers and waxy notes. Tasty.

  • Floral / stone fruit nose. Bell pepper, key lime pie and mango in the mouth, finishing long with minerality and salinity and good acidity. Perfect oysters-on-the-half companion. Very, very good.

  • Wonder how you find semilion in Yountville! This was so tasty, great balance and think this will age nicely.

  • The (almost) Kick-Off to the World Cup (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is very intriguing and savory with white fruits, citrus tones, bell pepper, lanolin, snap peas, and some herbal tones. There is excellent depth and the nose kept unwinding as it got more air.

Taste: Medium/Full bodied with high acidity. The acidity has some real punch to it with citrus tones, lanolin, snap peas, herbal tones, and some bits of bell pepper.

Overall: This was a very intriguing wine that really captivated my attention. I've never had a semillon like this and I wanted to bogart the whole bottle just to follow the evolution. I didn't do that, but I do look forward to trying as much from Forlorn Hope as possible.

  • A very interesting and beautiful wine. Fascinating herbal, and citrus tones on the nose that was definitely a departure from what you would expect. The palate was zippy and acidic. Beautiful light peach and mango tones, with some nice grassy elements to it.

  • This was an extremely herbal and stemmy (if you can believe that) wine, with a very surprising peppery nose. Pretty bizarre to be honest. A very restrained wine though, and would be excellent with food.

  • Consumed over three days: Overall an austere wine in my opinion, there is complexity here but you have to pay attention. On day one I opened this with dinner at home, perhaps it was the strong aromas of the mushroom ravioli, but this wine seemed extremely austere at the time. Without digging too deeply I smell little more than green olive, green melon and a hint of bell pepper. It wasn't until I read the notes from previous tasters about the orange and citrus fruit, I get that but it has a green edge to it. Strange. Here on day three with some sausages, the aromas still aren't grabbing me. On the palate however this wine is a winner. I agree with the orange and grapefruit previous tasters have mentioned, these flavors persist from start to finish. The acidity is really nice on this, staying very much in line with the flavors, providing lift and almost some body as this wine does seem a bit light-weighted throughout. It could have been the food, but I liked this wine way better on day 2 and 3 than as a PnP.

  • Pale golden color, not perfectly clear (which is not a problem chez moi). Nice nose of orange blossoms, orange flesh, and stones. Somewhat pleasantly nectarous on the palate, with kiwi and lemon notes. Still, it's not tart, but rather juicy. Finishes cleanly. Delicious.

  • Pale lemon color, with a bit of sediment. Sampled at room temp. Nice nose of orange flowers, pineapple, some stony notes. Bright grapefruit flavors lead on the palate, with a hint of honey in the texture. Hits a nice acid balance just on the soft side of tart. Finishes with a wave of ripe kiwi. Medium-bodied, juicy, and delicious.

  • Nutty nose. Nice texture and mouth feel. Lots of complexity - pineapple, tropical fruit, spice, minerals and chalk, structured around its acidity. Similar to some of the Australian semillons. This was excellent with the chicken with fennel and clementines from the Jeruselum cookbook. I really enjoyed this.
