  • Wow. So impressed. We were expecting decent and drinkable but this is a very tasty Amarone that has aged nicely. It was good right out of the bottle and we are an hour into the bottle now and it’s still opening up. It’s well-balanced, light and slightly fruit-forward. What a treat.

  • A year later, they're still selling this same vintage at my Trader Joe's, and it's still very impressive. I admit to not having a lot of experience with other Amarones, but just on its own merits, this is a luscious and very enjoyable wine. Paired nicely with our standard Black Friday dinner - flank steak rolled-up with garlic, cheese and baby spinach and baked. Spice on the nose, rich cherry cola notes on the tongue.

  • I felt misled by the decent score on Cellar Tracker (at least for this vintage), as well as being only one of 3-4 "recommended" Trader Joe's red wines by one blogger. It had a significant sour midpalate and finish that spoiled any balance or enjoyment. After confirming with my wife we returned it given the prior encouragement that at Trader Joes a flawed wine need not be corked to be gladly accepted back. If not returning it we really would have poured out the second half untouched. This was not the normal and enjoyable sweet-sour cherry flavor common in many Italian wines, but a genuine moderate to severe flaw in winemaking. Any decent Ripasso or straight Valpolicella would easily have this beat. At $17 it doesn't need to knock your socks off, but it shouldn't have any obvious flaws either.

  • Received as a gift. On the purple side of garnet with some turbidity; nose was hard to decipher but came across as concentrated fruit with slight alcohol. Reddish black fruit with nice complexity from tar and coffee notes, average acidity and a moderate, somewhat spicy finish with light tannins. Moderately full bodied. I have no previous experience with Amarone so cannot judge it from that perspective but this was a nice savory experience.

  • Surprised by this wine because the previous amarone I have consumed tend to be much more concentrated and thick. This wine had balance with plenty of acid and no sweetness. Certainly a good value from trader Joe's

  • For $16 at Trader Joe's, this is a very inexpensive Amarone and I found it to be a solid display of Amarone.
