  • Prior bottle was nearly three years ago and my notes were actually quite similar. Nose wasn't quite as aromatically "big" as it was previously, but still shows plenty of mixed blackfruits (black cherry and black raspberry) along with earth and spice qualities. Full bodied still, but perhaps showing even better balance now than it did previously. Rich and deep with black cherry, black raspberry and plum remaining the dominant fruit notes. The black cherry and black raspberry are cool and show excellent depth and nuance. The addition of the plum adds weight and complexity before blackberry and tart black cherry come in on the backside. Tannins are fine grained and more in balanced with the fruit than previously and the supporting acidity contribute structure and contrast. Certainly a bigger overall style, but this wine is showing extremely well at present with great fruit, impressive balance and overall harmony between the various components. Drink over the next two years to enjoy this wine at its current high point.

  • Agree with previous post. Well made pinot. I have had a couple other Bevan Pinots and they were hot and very fruit forward and I liked them. This though I like a lot better. Somewhat fruit forward but not warm and more refined. Tried the Sonoma Coast and Petaluma Gap, this is the best of the three.
*2nd night conclusions are this is a great bottle. Nose and palette exquisite and beautiful. Oak, char, fruit, viscosity, everything excellent. Get no heat from alcohol.

  • Prior bottle was nearly two years ago (December 2017) and this wine continues to show extremely well. Big nose, showing black cherry, black raspberry and vanilla qualities. Full bodied with a flavor profile that remains quite consistent with my prior bottles: black raspberry and black cherry upfront, significant depth through the middle and then deeper plum towards the back along with brighter blackberry and more tart black cherry before finishing with balanced tannins and acidity, mineral notes and earth. Where this wine continues to really impress is in terms of balance, despite the fact that this is undeniably a "big" pinot. It never comes across as powerful or high alcohol. In fact, the mid-body, while deep, shows elegance, roundness and nuance. Between the tannins and acidity, this wine is able to showcase the fruit on a solid frame while coming across as a wine of polished expression. After almost five hours open and fully integrated, this wine showed beautifully. May still be able to improve slightly and as wonderfully as it's drinking now, there's no immediate rush as it should be able to hold this level for several more years.

  • Prior bottle was March 2015 and in those 33 months, this wine has evolved, but still has ages to go. Black raspberry, black cherry, currant and vanilla on the nose. Full bodied (14.7% ABV) and opened about an hour ahead of time and then drunk over an additional 3.5. Black raspberry upfront with black cherry intermixed and then adding tart blackberry and tart black cherry in the background. Some tart acidity comes in towards the finish and when combined with the tannins, provides a solid backbone and good contrasts. Especially as this wine warmed from cellar temperature, felt like it was more polished than the prior bottle. But given how much fruit there is and where the structure is today, peak is still several years down the road. I have one more bottle that I might save for July 2019 and potentially get more based on that as this is truly a long-term wine.

  • Was a little hot on the first night, but smoothed out on the second night. Floral nose and palate consisted of dark cherries, vanilla, mild chocolate, and blue fruit. Big and bold wine.

  • Dark deep garnet in color. Beautiful aromas of sweet red fruits, currants, violet, and subtle spice dominate the nose. Raspberry, dark cherries, and earth stay on the palate for a long finish. The tannin was wonderfully integrated and lusciously soft. Only issue here was alcohol seemed a little high, but we all really enjoyed this one.

  • Same problem as Yale79--only could taste alcohol. Tried when opened and then slow ox-ed for five hours praying for improvement. My prayers were not answered.

  • AWFUL. Disjointed and too much alcohol taste.

  • Strong black raspberry along with currant and floral notes on the nose. More structured than the Petaluma Gap while retaining the richness and depth. Showed deep, dark black raspberry with notes of cranberry, currant and sour cherry intermixed. Finish was tannin driven, but it has the fruit to remain fully balanced. Smoothed out and deepened even further at the two hour mark. This wine's strengths were the depth and density of the fruit, the great structure and the overall balance. I expect this should exhibit further complexity and perhaps even more richness and roundness as it ages.

  • Very nice wine. Extremely exuberant, fun, expressive, and full of personality - much like Russell himself.

  • Did not like this wine. Tasted a the WL. Very big wine that tasted of alcohol to me. Lots of flavor but the alcohol masks it. I have plenty of PN's at a third of the price that drink better. $75 a bottle -must be kidding. Maybe my palate had an off day but I think not.
