Who said you can’t cellar rosé? This is really lovely, better than previous bottles. Savoury with lots of red berries and an enticing herbal spiciness. Still very fresh. Yum!

Domaine de Lambrays cheapest wine (by far) delivers a quite serious experience, for a rosé. Peach, redcurrants, spicy herbs, nice minerality and a light tannic touch lifted by a zippy acidity. Red grape in the finish. Not a grand vin, but a nice refreshment.

Some pinot and chardonnay at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): From what I remember, the last few times I had this, I thought that this could use a little more age, and all of a sudden, it gets a lot more age. Nice richness, with a concentrated sappiness on the palate. Fairly intense, but a slight bitter touch on the finish. Fairly complex with a heavier texture for a rose -- not a simple drinking wine, but a proper wine in its own right. I'm not sure I like it more at this age though.

Sweet red fruits and flowers on the nose, medium body with good acidity and a touch of fat makes this very pleasant drinking. No harshness or bitterness at all.

Masters of Syrah (Sixteen Restaurant, Chicago): A brief intermezzo half-way through our Syrah flights. Fresh for sure, but with more concentration than I generally get from rose of Pinot. Moderate depth and good intensity. A very good rose, and perfectly placed in the evening to brighten the palate.

Masters of Syrah (Chicago, IL): This seems to have gotten much better than I remember it being. There is a lot of cohesion here, with the sweet fruit and some really incredibly fresh green acids. There's a bit of cranberry and tart red cherries here, and the palate isn't one that just peters out, it's got some serious heft to it.

Lovely colour, really deep fleshy pink. Nicely fruity on the nose. Quite promising on the attack, and then the fruit fades and the texture is more winey rather than summer fruit. Decent, but lacks a vibrancy. ***

Very pretty salmon-copper color Love the nose: salty, briny, chalky, red apple peel, strawberries and lots of earthy, dusty notes. Tart and brisk on the palate with white cherries, strawberries, lots of dried flowers and crushed chalk. A bit funky and green, though, like the green and white tops of strawberries. Still good, but not nearly as brisk and alive as I remember it last year. Maybe just a slightly off bottle, because I feel like this should be holding up fine.

I'm not sure, but I think it's growing on me. The first half of the bottle last night seemed quite neutral and low key. Tonight it seems to be opening a bit and showing some bite. Redcurrant fruit, a bit of zip, quite clean and fresh and minerally, but also quite understated. It's certainly not as overtly fruity as the few Provençal rosés I've tried. Judging by its development overnight, this might merit a bit of cellar time. First impressions **1/2 (85) but maybe *** (88) now.

(Mostly) Northern Rhone Night (Browntrout - Chicago, IL): Super funky and super fresh. Smelled a bit like seafood at first...pretty odd....but the wild strawberry and minerals really turned on with some time. Beautiful wine, a serious rose.

Geeky Syrah Night at Browntrout (Chicago, IL): What a stunningly pretty wine (but what does Domaine des Lambrays make that isn't pretty?). Salmon colour. There's still a bit of that new wine smell that I associate with candied fruit on the nose. The palate is very bright and pleasant, and has a very slight touch of sweetness. Almost gamay-like in its cheerfulness, but a few hours gave this much more heft. I think this would do well with about a year's age on them.

Gorgeous salmon color. Smells of sea salt and limestone, red apple peel, wildflowers, strawberries. Lots of depth and structure on the palate, very creamy yet light on its feet. Loving the crisp McIntosh apple, wild strawberry, white cherries, lots of floral elements too. Dusty, crushed gravel and dusty earth notes add complexity. Long, clean, deep. The only vintage of this wine I’ve tasted, but it’s definitely one of my favorite pinks in a while. So long, intense and complete. I have one more bottle but may hold off for six months and try it then, just to see what happens.

Last bottle, 2/6 unaccounted for, but probably drunk. This not quite as impressive as last one, but still very good.

3rd Annual Gentlemens Dinner (Villa Ekenhov): A glass while cooking. Nice and fresh with peach, strawberry and raspberry. Fresh and zippy. Serious rosé
