Surprised as to how good this was. Cherry in color. Nice floral nose as soon as cork was popped. Mature smooth and balanced palate of cherry, minerals, licorice and a slight earthiness. Harmony in a glass.

Lovely juice, fully mature, some might say a bit past. But it's got plenty of lively fruit and backbone, a sweet herbal tinge, and a fragrant, outgoing personality.

Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. Took about 30 minutes to open up and flesh out, but then very pleasant, nicely aged, elegant, medium bodied, cool vintage granache.

opened 30 min dark ruby red; dark roast coffee, concentrated red raspberry and faint iron( raw meat) nose; tart red cherry, under ripe red raspberry flavors, later notes of bitter dark chocolate; good balance and mid body weight, prominent ripe tannins, medium long finish. At this point seems like 10+ years to hit it's prime

[Tasted double blind] Vanilla, serious garrigue, great acidity, lithe, autumnal, very light color, unusual for sure. We debated Grenache and Pinot for a while and finally guessed something from Oregon. Oh well, quite light and burgundian for sure, this wine is doing fine and in no danger of falling apart.

Sherry, figs and cooked blackberry on the nose awaken the dread; fully garnet color deepens it; the first sip confirms it: toast. And not in a good-buttered-toast-with-yummy-jam kind of way. Prematurely oxidized, aged, gone, what have you. I'd put it down to a bad bottle, but the entire half-case has seemed to be on a highway to Heck, with the first couple being big, brawny and raw, and every one since having been much further advanced than expected. I might have blamed myself for poor storage, but some of the other recent tasters' comments give me pause.

The South of France in Colorado: 1999 Chateauneuf Horizontal: This wine caused a sensation, as it was the easily the most distinctive wine of the night, showing how akin the other wines are in flavors and style... A captivating bouquet of cured meats, incense, Asian spices, and lactic-yeast notes, I could sniff this all night. Very elegant texture and light-bodied even after the other wines, but still with terrific flavor intensity and a lovely menthol-cherry combo. My 2nd favorite.

Opened and it was a bit thin and muted. Mushroom, foresty, cedary, nice but not great. After about an hour, it opened up nice, becoming more round, back with herbs, slight gaminess, dried fruits, port like (but not that thick) and it was just great. Very elegant but perhaps a bit more advanced than I had expected from a 9 year old bottle but might only be this one

Grand Crew Bellingham visits Southern Rhone: Lars called this the protean wine, and I agree. It changed dramatically in the glass, starting with sweet dark fruit, plums, and chocolate, but quicky giving way to to secondary scents and flavors of leather, green olive and garrigue. More elegant than powerful.

Medium-bodied, classical CdP. Nose of kirsch and guarrigue (herbs, spices) with animal notes appearing after a while, very refined and elegant palate, quite complex and already integrated. A decent CdP in a traditional style.

Pnp, med ruby, smell of burnt plastic and nose of wild flowers and red fruit. Earthy in mouth with ample acidity, med length.

Dusty prunes and sweet earth. Not much time left on this wine. Would be great with a fatty protein or pot roast in your pjs.

1/12/04 at home. Excellent. Rich color, varietal nose, absolutely lovely palate, plush, soft, and a real fleshpot. 5-12-16-8-91/100
