Red, high intensity. Developed, medium(-) nose. Restrained charcuterie, dried herbs, some complexity. On the palate dry, medium(+) acidity, high level of well grained tannins, full bodied, 13%. Flavours with blue fruit, dried herbs, some charcuterie. Juicy. Very, very good length with sandy afterfeel. Superb. And even a step up day two.

Classic Syrah profile. The acidity is high, making it a good food wine. Tertiary aromas still contend with primary fruit, but the tannins have smoothed out nicely.

Deep purple-ruby. plenty of black and white pepper, then herb, bay leaf, kalamata olives, blueberry and stemmy notes. A sappy, almost tart attack where the invigorating acidity meets the stems and slightly dry texture. the wine is muscular, very focussed and animated with firm almost abrasive tannins. There is a distinct vegetal, broccoli note, yet also blueberry, intense white pepper, a hint of smoke, even garlic and a sour black cherry tannin. Then as the wine evolves there is a meaty almost feral note. There is a good concentration and clearly, this is a smart wine but I found the wine quite busy and in need of some integration with time. luckily there are further bottles.

Deep almost opaque purple-ruby. A noted white pepper on the nose with herbal elements, bay leaf, stems, Kalamata olives, garlic polony, dabs of smoke and frozen blueberries. The palate reflects the stem inclusion with a sappy almost tart acidity, with a sour blackberry and blueberry fruit a distinct vegetal note (broccoli?) and white but also black pepper. This wine is all masculine with a slightly meaty almost bretty element. Despite the fabulous intensity, the tannins are abrasive. The finish is a little drying (brett again?), and there is a vegetal after kick. A good wine but feels a little over-eager.
Opaque dark red. Beautiful sweet herby nose. Pepper, cedar, char, and smoke. Evenly structured. The tannins have softened and the acid gives it a soft punch. This will keep but it’s drinking pretty great now.

Very youthful, brimming with energy, though pretty well settled now with about five years of bottle age. Strong, fresh acidity, and bold dark fruit, big black pepper note, mild green peppercorn and garlicy white spice. Shows fine tannins, and good sustain through the finish. Such great precision to this, almost seemed a bit foursquare at first but it was just its youthful vibrancy.
Followed over 4 days now, and it showed nice development of complex flavors on day 3, there was only about a glass left, kind of left it for dead, but here, a day later this might be my favorite glass. Threw a bit of sediment, but really impressive how this has held up, showing great, and still carrying some good firmness to its structure, wow. This and Faury Saint Joseph V.V. are a couple of the best values in the N Rhône and likely world wide.

An excellent crozes hermitage - pure Syrah almost austere. Deep nose with violets, leather, dried meats, full, rounded palate and mouthfeel with a medium length finish. For the money, I thought it was great.

Opened tonight with venison tenderloin. A classic rendition of Syrah, still fairly primary, but with some green olive and white pepper showing through the fruit. A bit of back-end coarseness shows that the the tannins will take a few more years to fully resolve. This one should be good for another 5-10 years.

This was significantly darker in profile in comparison to other Crozes-Hermitage wines I’ve had. Violets, underripe blackberry and charcoal aromatics. There was a streak of iron down the middle of the palate to go with more blackberry, spiced rhubarb and cedar. Chewy tannins. No problem holding for a few more years.

A Crozes-Hermitage that approaches a real Hermitage in appearance (and price). Very dark in the glass, limited nose, on the palate good and pure fruit, a strong acid backbone and a long, relatively dry and tannic finish. Very well made and very nice to drink. Maybe time will further improve this wine - the word „crozes“ made me uncertain to wait. As of today the bit lacking complexity and dryness of the finish prevent a higher score than 91p.

Bien. Great early showing. Dense and tannic at first but after about 20-30 min in décantér it opened--peppery, spice, brambly black fruits, fresh and balanced. Perfect with wagyu steak. For best results give this another few years in bottle.

Cork showed serious penetration...very uncharacteristic of a wine this age...and a bit of seepage. On the palate, this was most of the way to vinegar. Sigh. That's what I get for thinking to myself "it's been a while since I opened a flawed bottle"...

Flott friskhet.

88-89 pts

C: Dark, deep red N: Leather, hint of bacon P: Mulberry, dark red fruit and leather. Slightly tannic. Not a light wine, but not at all oppressive. Slightly acid. A bit disjointed; on the young side. Otherwise very good length and balance. Left out, under vacuvin. Next day it was a bit smoother. Note since 2004, the winemaker is fils Maxime. Previously whole clusters were used.

A bit on the savory side. The nose has a bit of poop with a lot of brambly pepper. On the palate the tannins are well integrated. Not overly alcoholic. Pepper, garrigue, and dust are the main players here, though there is some dark fruit as well.

Blinds at Californios - 4 (Californios SF): Solid example - absolutely classic with intriguing herbaceous secondaries. Score: 8.5-9 ------------------- Full Notes (Blind) Visual
- Moderate ruby
Nose
- Intense black pepper, rotundone - Tart blackberry, slight olive - Stemmy herbaceous nature - driven by non-fruit aromas and pepper
Palate
- medium bodied - elevated alcohol - 13.5% (actually 13%) - elevated acid - elevated tannins - papery - no overt oak usage
Conclusions
- rotundone —> Syrah or GSM blend - Not GSM/Southern Rhone: Structurally doesn’t have alcohol I’d expect from Southern rhone. Color is darker. - Structure and aromatics are classic Northern Rhone Syrah. - It seems a bit lighter, less ripe and more herbaceous, suggesting maybe not Cornas or Hermitage/Crozes. - Syrah > N. Rhone > Saint Joseph, 2013 - Actually: - Syrah > N. Rhone > Crozes-Hermitage, 2013
- 2013 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage - This seemed pretty obvious to me. - Between SJ and Crozes - Crozes should probably be the default guess. Saint Josephs are a bit less common.

Very charming wine. I was expecting this to be too young, but it showed quite well.
Nose: Berries, dark fruits, olives, leather, smoke.
Palate: More of the same with quite round tannins, though a few years to smooth a little more won't hurt.
This shut down during the hour and a half we spent drinking it. I have another bóttle which I will probably save for a couple of years, but there is nothing wrong with enjoying its youth and pretty fruits now. 90-91.

Concentrated and dense black-red color with a hint of youthful purple. At first very reductive and stuffy nose with slightly skunky aromas of gunpowder smoke and sulfur. However, these reductive tones blow off rather quickly, revealing a pure and vibrant nose of peppery spice, brambly blackberries, some wild floral aromatics, a little bit of sun-baked earth and a subtle hint of bretty funk. The wine is bone-dry, crisp and very acid-driven on the palate with medium body and very intense flavors of tart lingonberries and cranberries, vibrant blackberry tones, some crushed peppercorns, a little bit of stony minerality, a hint of gamey character and a touch of smoke. The wine feels very structured and tightly-knit with its racy, exceptionally high acidity and very firm and grippy medium-plus tannins. The finish is very long and crunchy with quite a bit of tannic grip and vibrant, bone-dry flavors of tart lingonberries, sour cherry bitterness, some peppery spice, a little bit of sanguine iron and a hint of brambly blackberries.
An exceptionally powerful and structured Crozes-Hermitage with a lot of freshness and intensity. This is a far cry from those light, delicate and easy Syrah wines Crozes-Hermitage is known for: the wine might not be as big and concentrated as the best Hermitage or Cornas wines, but it is at least as structured with its very tightly-knit and almost angular tannins and racy acidity. Requires a lot of breathing and some hearty food if drunk now. I heartily recommend letting the wine age some 8-10 more years just to let the reduction issues resolve themselves naturally and to unwind some of that tightly-wound structure. A Crozes-Hermitage in its own class, good value at 29,90€.

Nose: There is a savory quality to the nose with black cherries, black fruits, leather, black pepper, and some olive paste.
Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity and youthful tannins. The structure is certainly noticeable, but it isn't obtrusive with black cherries, olive paste, black pepper, and some leather notes.
Overall: This took about 5 hours of air to really get going. I would love to see where this goes with another 5-8 years as there is a lot to like right now.

Doft: Mycket koncentrerat av primär frukt - blåbär, björnbär - bastubänk, målarlåda med lite drag åt gummi, lakrits, viol, köttigt, vitpeppar och torkade örter Smak: Koncentrerat, stramt, kryddigt och något oförlöst. Mkt tanniner och syra. Frukten purung.

Pre-tasting wines from Arlequin for a sensory clinic (Home): Dark ruby with no rim variation. Clear, bright. N: Clear cracked black pepper. dark fruits - fresh and tart blackberry. Very nice. P: : Moderate alcohol (13%? - yes, 13%). Elevated tannins - A bit tissue-papery/chalky. Medium plus body. Slightly elevated acidity. Correct and primary. A bit harsh to drink now. Score: Around 9. With some air, the dark pepper became more submerged by the ripe black raspberry, smoked meat, slight turned earth, and faint 4-ep (more like a warm dog smell). Great concentration with extended fruit, acid, and tannins on the finish. Very nice!

A bouquet with a lot of raspberries and underneath some cherries; this is serious stuff, still tight, very concentrated and firm, but very good tannins. The balance is convincing and assures a quite long future.

Dam I feel like an outlier here, with the scores below where they are this for me was lights out fantastic given the price paid, black olives, game, smoke dark berries with hints of wet stone, palate is fresh and zippy, robust and tannic but not in and obtrusive way, medium length with a black raspberry, perfume, dark floral flavour

88-89 pts

C: Dark, deep red
N: Leather, hint of bacon
P: Mulberry, dark red fruit and leather.

Score: 8.5-9
-------------------
Full Notes (Blind)
Visual
- Moderate ruby
Nose
- Intense black pepper, rotundone
- Tart blackberry, slight olive
- Stemmy herbaceous nature
- driven by non-fruit aromas and pepper
Palate
- medium bodied
- elevated alcohol - 13.5% (actually 13%)
- elevated acid
- elevated tannins - papery
- no overt oak usage
Conclusions
- rotundone —> Syrah or GSM blend
- Not GSM/Southern Rhone: Structurally doesn’t have alcohol I’d expect from Southern rhone. Color is darker.
- Structure and aromatics are classic Northern Rhone Syrah.
- It seems a bit lighter, less ripe and more herbaceous, suggesting maybe not Cornas or Hermitage/Crozes.
- Syrah > N. Rhone > Saint Joseph, 2013
- Actually:
- Syrah > N. Rhone > Crozes-Hermitage, 2013
- 2013 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage
- This seemed pretty obvious to me.

Tasted blind.

Doft: Mycket koncentrerat av primär frukt - blåbär, björnbär - bastubänk, målarlåda med lite drag åt gummi, lakrits, viol, köttigt, vitpeppar och torkade örter
Smak: Koncentrerat, stramt, kryddigt och något oförlöst.

Very nice!
