Not the best aged Stony I've had but still a fine wine. Drink now. Was best at room temp and after an hour open. Quite fragrant and a long finish but a bit disjointed in between. Nice honeycomb and hay flavors with some quince and brighter honey and citrus notes that are almost like cognac but not sweet nor oxidized. And its that flavor sits separately from the rest. Went very well with a lobster cream sauce in a seafood pasta. I'm thinking there is some bottle variation at this age and your mileage may vary

This is holding up nicely at age 11. The very first aroma to jump out of the glass for me was an unexpected pungent passionfruit! This is followed by floral waves of gardenia and frangipani. Eventually it settles down into some honeycomb, quince, pear, and crème brulée notes.
It's an explosion of flavor on the palate with a really lively acidity still simmering right on the top of the structure. Finish leaves behind sort of a butterscotch caramel lingering aftertaste and I really enjoyed every drop of this bottle!
This wine is currently in its prime drinking window but I don't think there's any hurry. The aromas are still fresh and alive and the acid is still popping! I wouldn't be afraid to leave this alone for another 10 years, But you're certainly not going to regret opening it today.

A "very, very, very" good CA chardonnay -- as I described this to a reluctant friend over dinner last night (Melissa Clark's scallops sautéed in butter -- outstanding). Color a perfect straw gold, nose fragrantly Californian and a taste of nectar. I am particularly peeved that Stony Hill was recently sold and the price of a bottle of this gem has tripled to over $100!. I still have few bottles of the latest vintages (including a few of these). For inquiring minds -- quality storage is key.

Once again, not up to what I expected, though it certainly cannot be called unattractive. It's just that I have had better vintages. The color is certainly strong; has not gone into orange/brown land. Still, the nose is a bit underwhelming, high-toned, with coconut. Seems to be right on the edge of oxidation. At 12 years, for this winery, I am somewhat surprised. Still, there is enough here to like this wine despite its having gone off peak at some point in the relatively recent past. 5-11-14-7: 87/100.
Next day: Pretty much the same as yesterday, except the oxidative element is gone, so I'd say this is still sound. Marginally better: 5-11-16-7: 89/100.

It's always more difficult for me to ID cork taint in whites than reds. However, this seems a bit "off" from what I expected, so I am withholding judgment due to possible cork issues.

Deep gold in color similar to medium honey. Decanted for 90 minutes based on other tasting notes. Temp 45-50F. Crystal clear aromas of citrus, chilled pear, nut (almond maybe?), and an eathy waxy note. Barely medium body on the palate with more pear, along with key lime, lemon pith, and a bright acidity. The palate isn’t complex but it’s clean, crisp, and beautiful. Finish was slightly steelish and mineral with good lingering acidity - amazing for its age but telltale for Stony Hill. This is the oldest (10 years) I’ve tasted from SH. It’s amazing how ‘young’ this wine presets, except for the color and those discernible honey/waxy notes. I believe this wine could age much longer - another 10+ years - given the perceptible acidity. The nearly two hour decant was perfect for my tastes and, honestly, the other 2012 SH Ch bottle I have won’t make past Christmas 2022. This worked fabulously with roasted Turkey breast. Try it with herbed chicken or meaty herbed or citrus white fish.

Napa Valley - November 2022; 11/16/2022-11/19/2022 (Napa Valley): Nose of toasted marshmallow and caramel. Reminded me of an aged Sauternes on the nose. Palate of creme brulee and lemonhead candy. Acidity still going strong. Deep gold color showing some age.

At ten years old, this bottle has reached its peak showing a bit of decline even though perfectly cellared since purchased directly from winery upon release. Overall, a classic Stony Hill that reminds me of many Premier Cru Puligny Montrachet’s.

My first Stony Hill, tasted blind, lots of pear, pear skin phenolics, candle wax, blanched almond, a hard driving acid on the palate but a warmth to the fruit; called it as domestic that does not go through malo but didn't think it was Chardonnay...Semillon?

Cracked this open last night and it didn't really impress me then, but today is another story. With air, this has added a creamy layer of complexity to what was otherwise a fairly lean, citrusy wine. So, word to the wise: don't pop and pour this one. 5-12-17-8: 92/100.

Wine is still young, nice mineral and light honey nose, the flavors are flinty and pears, finish is balanced but a bit short still. I've had bigger versions in the years younger and older than this so it leads me to believe to wait until end of 2022 (1.5 years away) to try another bottle for some expansion. Still, very good with seafood and almost as aperitif

Superb chardonnay! Great balance between acidity and fruit. Still refreshing and young with many more years of life if well-stored. Fruit of tart lemon-lime with apple-like sweetness such that it is a bone-dry white much like a Puligny Montrachet. This is a great wine. Wish I had more in the cellar. Stony Hill is one of the more age-worthy Napa chardonnays and I have been buying for over 25 years. Last vintage of winemaker Mike C. was in 2017. 2018 vintage was co-winemaker with his successor. Stony Hill is one of the true, dry-farmed vineyards in Napa. Let's hope the new owners keep it that way and do not irrigate the vines to produce more.

Bright medium lemon yellow. Light floral, citrus and pear nose. Palate is fresh, ever so lightly oaked and nicely high in acidity. Flavors include lemon, apple and citrus along with a mineral finish which is moderately long. Tasted quite young and should be fairy long lived.

Pale golden in the glass, delicate nose, explosion of flavors on the palate. Pear, honeysuckle, mineral and dry grass, with a backbone of acidity. Long finish, slightly spicy. Classic Stony Hill purity — the wine takes center stage, not the oak. Very nice.

when my wife drinks Chardonnay, she looks for Stony Hill. So it only makes sense that when she was trying a new recipe for Ribollita which called for 2 cups of unoaked white wine, she used this bottle. The soup was outstanding. Later, I found the rest of the bottle in the frig and took the opportunity to taste it after it had warmed in the glass for 5 minutes. A hint of honey with a lemon twist on the nose, white peach with a touch of spice on the palate, crisp medium finish.

this is a unique California wine. Typical Stony Hill in that it is not oaky, not too sweet and has a wonderful balanced flavor and finish. We need more of this style in CA. More of a French Chablis than a CA chardonnay. It has mellowed nicely from a few years in the cellar. Great wine.

Honey, cream, minerality, and pears. On day 2 it turns full butterscotch/confectionary.
Medium acid with a touch of bitterness on the finish. Age is adding weight, but the lively acid balances it out.
