PNP Saturday night with crazy hodgepodge dinner and drunk after a delicate and really beautiful red pinot. Enjoyed it well enough but stuck a cork in it and put it in the fridge. Revisited it 2 nights later with baked steelhead and wine was really singing and no complaints about 2011 and short finishes or no mid palate. Lovely deep dark fruit but in balance and no intrusive tannin or acid. Really nice wine.

Good, but weakest of all the Greer's I've had to date. Red fruits on nose, carries through to the palate with some dustiness (which I love in Greer). Color is a deep crimson, no fading at all at 10 years old. Medium body, short finish. 3 hour decant, didn't improve over time. Again, a good wine, but maybe the difficult vintage is apparent here.

Consistently one of the best 2011 Napa cabs. Even at nine years old, the fruit is vibrant, the tannins are mostly resolved, the color has no bricking, and the finish is long and supple. Shared with four people, all with consistent notes. Lovely wine.

Impressive performance for this wine. Had at a tasting with about 30 other Napa cabs, and it was almost the unanimous winner. Everyone couldn’t believe it was a 2011. Tasted, smelled, and looked more like a 2012, but still had some classic old school Napa notes. Not sure you could ask for more in a Napa cab.

As is typical of Greer, this is classic Cabernet Sauvignon: dark cassis, crushed violets and anise, iron, and meat. It has a nice cedary-fragrance and moderately rich mouthfeel, but has an austere edge that runs through it and is a bit off-putting. Give it more time to see if it softens and opens up.

Inky purple with heavy sediment. Bright cherry and cassis notes. Some licorice on the finish. Fairly demure after opening- this got better with time. Not my favorite Greer- but one of the better 2011 California Cabs we’ve had thus far.

Seemed to be in a dumb phase right now - not a lot of aromatics or much showing in the glass. Had a 2012 that was open and singing, but this sadly, was not open for business.

Drank alongside the 2011 Pott Arsenal. The Pott Arsenal was more open and plush right now, and was probably the favorite tonight. That said, the Greer seemed to need more air (or age) and had more in reserve. The Greer may turn out to be the better wine in 5 years, though both were great.

I echo what LUCASLABELLE wrote about this being a weaker vintage, though, up to now, my only other experience with Greer has been the 2009 to which I gave a 96. That said, this was still very enjoyable. It's a tad light but has nice bright juicy fruit. Not a knockout, but still a credible contender. I suggest an hour of aeration or one pass through a Vinturi upon opening.

Smokey, dusty, and dark fruits. Stiff arming the critics on 2011 Napa Cab, this Greer was one heck of a wine. Paired with a 1993 Dunn HM and there was no winner- they were both great for what they were. Kudos to Team Greer for this one!

Opened and decanted for about 45 mins. Followed this along over the course of a dinner that lasted a few hours. Initially the wine was very “big” yet seemed closed both aromatically and on the palette. As time went by the wine opened nicely and displayed a pure fruit character with nicely integrated alcohol and moderate tannin. Overall this was the “weakest” showing I’ve seen from a Greer (I’ve had many) however it was still enjoyable. Just not as good as other vintages I’ve had. (07,08,09,10,11,12) 93 points for me.

Very nice for an '11, showing great balance, lots of dark fruit, velvety smooth and polished tannin, still has lots of time but very approachable now. Great stand alone wine or with a rich meat or barbq. The structure isn't massive but provides a nice frame, really interested to see where this goes in the next 5yrs or so.
First time with Greer and figured I'd pop a bottle from a difficult vintage to see how it held up. Nose is a bit reticent, but some swirling reveals wonderful nuanced aromas of blackberry, licorice, forest floor and fresh cut flowers. No vegetal components, which is a big accomplishment in my mind given the vintage. On the pallet this is a feminine wine, no doubt again because it's a 2011, with nice persistence and good levels of acid. Not as concentrated as I would ideally like and not showing much in the way of fruit, but really elegant and well balanced with a nice suave mouthfeel and a decent, if slightly light finish. Nice taste throughout and clearly excellent quality. I think this is a big accomplishment, but I doubt it's going to be a long aging wine. 92+

Another wonderful showing for the 2011 Greer. Tough vintage, but this is a classically built Napa cab. Not over done, but lithe, nuanced, and delicious.

muted nose with vegetal flavors up front. Some bitter chocolate and tart cherries after an hour. In the second hour it again became muted from a flavor profile point of view. Not sure if this is a '11 vintage problem or a phase in the evolution of this wine.

Another excellent showing for the 2011. Although, maybe it is because I've been drinking too many 2012 Napa Cabs, the 2011 Greer started out a touch on the shy side. The nose came around quickly, bursting with fruit and typical cab notes. The mouthfeel was nice, but not overly lush, and the finish was med/long. My sense is that I needed to give it more air, as the last glass was the most balanced of the bunch. Poured it for two friends who had never tasted, and they both loved it.

Decanted for a few hours before dinner at Casbah. Hate to say it, but this wine came off as rather simple and not terribly interesting....neither a ton of energy or complexity, although loved the initial neon purple color when first poured. Maybe this is the vintage showing its hand

Drank at Xmas dinner with a nice, rare tenderloin. No decant, but opened a few hours earlier. Simply wonderful wine from the 2011 vintage. Deep, dark color with a nose full of black fruit and a long finish that had a kiss of sweet oak. A hit at the table that quickly disappeared.
