Dave's b'day lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point): Quite closed and reticent initially...with agitation a little butter and non-delineated stone fruit. More texture and riper than the 2008...opens with time to show peach on both the nose and palate, the oak is present here as well. It feels a little more worked. Hmm.

Light golden colour. Mealy, some white peach, necatarine and toast. Palate is full flavoured still but has just enough drive to push through to the finish. Feels like a rather ripe profile for Curly flat?

From glass. Clear yellow. Cool, ever so slightly sweet breeze of smoke, lemons and flowers, and almost a lychee-like note - all together beautiful and full. Likewise on the palate: cool smoke with flowers, lemons and grapefruit, herbs, and a concentrated ball of these flavors and acidity that coalesces in midpalate and carries through on long finish. Persistence. Towards the end of the glass more marine and lemony, but wow, whatta chard.

Just brilliant Chardonnay. Peach, nectarine, honey, butterscotch, hint of melon, cashew, long flavours, fresh acidity. Round, full bodied, complex, but maintaining lightness and vigour. Delicious.

Curly Flat is one of the most consistent producers from the Macedon ranges, with their annual release of Pinot and Chardonnay eagerly anticipated. The 2012 Chardonnay is textural and expressive with the hallmark Macedon Ranges acidity pulling everything together and framing what will be a Chardonnay for the cellar.
The wine is a lightly golden yellow in colour with a nose that gives honeyed stone fruits, subtle wood smoke and background floral notes. On entry there is an intensity of stone fruits and melon that benefit from integrated oak against lemon pith acidity. It's this acidity that gives contrast to the fullness of the palate and provides prodigious length. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2014-2023)

An excellent Chardy to accompany prawns and oysters. Ex-Magnum, could easily age well for another 8 years.

Christmas supper with the Wine Ark boys (Fix St. James, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Slight malolactic and toasted oak notes over soft peach and mandarin oil. Pretty much the same on the palate - juicy and tangy and with a little more spice on the finish.

Nose; peach and nectarine, some bread crumb/warm bread notes, buttered toast, quite expressive and voluptuous bouquet.
Taste; White stone fruits, citrus, melon, toasty complexity, great acid line running through, oak a small part of the mix.
If you like a more expressive and round wine then this is for you.
