Extremely easy and smooth red with some nice rusting red fruit notes that you get from Sangiovese. Got better as it opened but was also in a really nice place, so I would suggest a quick decant and drinking it now.

Still good power in this one. No decant, but I think that was a mistake. The fruit was much more present on day 2. Although the amount of Sangiovese is low, it really came through. No sign of age in the color yet. Looking forward to taste 11' and 13'

Ready and delicioso!! Too easy to gulp this one espec with food once she has air. Opened 24 hours before no full decant, bottle upright for sediment to fall, cork out 25% of the time. Hour 24, dinner spaghetti and italiano assort, began amazing open within 10 minutes in the glass and the bottle just kept getting better as it got air, I consumed 60% of it, gone in 2.5 hours and beautiful wine at a proper price. Juicy, flowing wine bath of the mouth. Impressive!

Bought this off a restaurant wine list several years ago. Simply a beautiful wine, so much smoother than other Italians I've had recently. Very lush, black fruits, full bodied with a long aftertaste. Hard to beat Gaja wines!

A blend of 55% merlot, 35% syrah and 10% sangiovese. Earthy blackfruit notes on the nose - seemed like mostly merlot qualities here. Between medium and full bodied and took between 60-90 minutes to fully open up. Blackberry and plum upfront, adding some red cherry hints behind (sangiovese) and then balanced spices notes, cassis, leather and tar into and through the finish. Overall, nice flavor evolution and grape blend; it felt like the merlot notes were dominant with the syrah providing the brighter notes and the sangiovese peeking through with the trademark red cherry. The blackfruit notes through the middle, along with the overall integration were the highpoints. This wine should continue to improve over the next several years. (Infiniti Restaurant, Grace Bay Club, Turks & Caicos Islands)

I usually do not care for Syrah or Sangiovese blends. However, I have recently been focusing on Gaja and this wine was recommended. Minerals, beef, body odor, ocean, toffee, peanut, and burned marshmallow on the nose. The Syrah comes through immediately. Salty, Sangiovese finish. Rich earth and cherry. Distinctly Italian. Slight acid/heat down the throat. Slight tannins. Very slight smoke. Very slight pencil lead. Olives. Improved after two plus hours. Salted beef more than anything else. I do not think that this is an austere wine - especially considering timely but unfortunate experiences with Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon - so I disagree with some comments about that negative attribute. While the QPR relative to other wineries may be low - the QPR relative to other Gaja wines may be high - and I would buy it again. Amy really liked it, and I continue to be intrigued by Gaja. It looks like the 2013 and 2014 are not good buys though.

Great nose upon opening, 30 minutes later still tight and a bit tart in the glass, dry, but soft tannins and nice finish. Fruit not very forward - yet. 2 hours later there is an overwhelmingly unpleasant bite in the back of the throat with the finish that I can't get past - too harsh for me. Otherwise it would be OK.

Very good. A little tart at first, but an excellent finish. Air and decanting alleviated the tartness. As we drank on, the balance was much appreciated. Fruity, but an earthy, long finish. Ultimately, quite smooth. I might have expected a little bit more at the price point, though.

Drank at Carrabba's in Jax. Color looks dark, but can't adequately ascertain in here. Aromas of dark and dark red fruits, earth, tar, and mineral. Medium body and acid, medium(+) finish, and flavors of dark and dark red fruits and leathery spices. Solid for this wine list.

A blend of Merlot (55%), Syrah (35%) and Sangiovese (10%). 13,5% alcohol.
Quite dark and pretty deep yet somewhat translucent cherry red color. Powerful, concentrated and pretty dark-toned nose with brooding aromas of juicy dark fruits, some ripe dark berries, a little bit of toasty wood character and a perfumed streak of floral complexity that reminds me more of Nebbiolo than anything Tuscan. The wine is ripe, rich and juicy on the palate with quite full body and succulent flavors of ripe dark berries, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of brambly blackberries, a hint of earthy spices and a touch of savory wood character. The medium acidity feels rather soft, so the structure seems to rely more on the firm medium tannins. The finish is quite tannic and grippy with ripe flavors sweet dark fruits, savory wood spice, some fresh cherry tones, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, a hint of dark chocolate and a touch of blackberry marmalade.
A surprisingly good, firm and serious Super-Tuscan with nice sense of harmony, structure and complexity. Doesn't really impress me, however: the wine seems to be lacking character and sense of place. A wine like this doesn't feel that much Tuscan, but instead some anonymous modern red wine - although the sour cherry notes and tannic grip point to the general direction of Italy. I guess this wine could benefit from medium-to-long term cellaring, but while getting more complex with age, I doubt that the years will grant this wine any more character. A good wine, but nothing really memorable.

I've had much better. This wine was an acid bomb from the start. I don't think it was due to astringency either because it stayed that way for hours. I tried everything I could to coax the acid rain curtain down from the front of this one. Wine poured a medium purple color into the glass. Translucent. Finally after 2 hours I was starting to get some black cherry and cardamom or perhaps some kind of cumin on the entry, medium bodied. The wine finished simply with a black cherry note. Not very complex. Quite disappointed. If someone served it to me I would have been delighted. But even gouda cheese overpowered this wine. Even at the last 50ml, the wine was still quite acidic up front but had softened. My inclination is to rate it an 84, but I just don't know if I really got a fair represntation of what this wine is about. Probably should have uncorked it in early 2016. I think it has the longevity to last until 2017, but don't push it past that.

Resolutely modern but not too big (13.5% ABV), sweet oak, ripe fruit but rather light on the palate, lacks the substance and weight of the 2011 or the 2009, decent length but an unconvincing finish. An adequate rather than a great Promis. Apparently the relatively young vines still need a warm vintage to really shine. At restaurant Vuur, Baarn, NL.
