Herbal, red and black fruit, slight soil and dirt nose. Still holding grippy tannins, olives, black plums, pluots, black pepper, dried cranberry, dark raisins, quite nice and holding very strong. Oak in a nice balance. 91-92

Smoked meats, raspberry, blackberry, olive, salt and a touch of cola. With the acidity, these could cellar for years yet. Hard to beat QPR at $25. Ojai needs years to shine and this one does just that. Some of the previous notes mention it being sweet and no savory notes. There must be bottle variation since it is definitely not sweet and there are lots of savory olive, smoke and salt notes.

Still youthful colour. Intense blackberry fruit aromas, some leafy herbs in the background, but this is all about ripe fruit, really. Sweet and generous on the palate, blackberry, integrated tannin. No savoury tones to be seen anywhere. Not my style of Syrah but there's a lot to be said for the quality of fruit. Drinks well now but will probably survive further cellaring.

Dark purple; aromas of leather and blueberry; some tart fruit up front and around the edges, with dark berries, tar, and smoked bacon in the middle, and a long peppery tannin finish. Plenty going on here for the money. A-.

Just as good as the first one. Teeth-staining purple color. Dark berries balanced with good tannins, road tar. Parker knocked it for being monolithic, but it is pretty damn tasty.

Dark purple color. Rich blueberry mixed with earthy, tar. Oak integrated nicely into fruit. Not as long and complex as Adam's single vineyard Syrahs, but awfully tasty and great value at $22.50. Drink it up now, and will last for a few years. Yummy.

Opened and let breath for 45 min. Captivating nose. Rich and concentrated. Dark ink comes to mind. Finish was a tad short, but good QPR.

An interesting mix of wild flowers and red meat. A bit sweet but drinking nicely.

Good, well-made wine, but nothing special here.

We really enjoyed this. Had it over two nights. Smoke, currant, blueberry. Really tasty and not at all over the top.

Polaner Selections Fall Preview Tasting (New York City): Deep ruby color. Nose of up-front fruit with a touch of menthol. On the palate, bright fruit and spice. Relatively simple but very nice.
