We chose this wine to pair with a world-class, lightly-spiced chicken mole from El Naranjo in Austin. We consumed after a stunning Riesling Spaetlese paired to one of the best pork cochinita pibils I've ever eaten. So crazy mix of flavor, spice, and wine. This Turley rocked its place in the lineup. Kept going back for more, with the food and later on its own. I have tons of Turley Petite Syrah enjoyed at various stages of evolution. This bottle is gorgeously mature and smooth in a primary phase of development. Would it merit a 94 score on its own? No idea, as we were mixing some heavy food with it. But if you have rich, flavorful, lightly spiced food that begs for big rich non-tannic wine, this Turley delivers. Excellent spot in its long drinking window.

Revisiting 7 years later, score down a few points. Very slight bricking. Nice acidity. Full bodied and heavy on the pencil, graphite, road tar, creosote. Ripe black fruits and a bit hot at 14.6. Well made if a little over the top.
Solid effort and drinking great now. Starts with a nose of tar and cherry. The chemical tones don't continue on the palate where it's all fruit and autumn spice. Medium finish. Drink now.

Did not expect such savory notes on this wine, almost “Rocks” in style with funk. The wine was so nicely balanced and so easy to drink. In a great spot now for consumption. Wish I had more….

Day one more savory than fruity, day two the savory recedes and I noticed the fruit more. This is not like most of their zins. This is more reserved and classical in the fruit profile. Tannins and acidity seemed right on to me. That being said I think it will still improve with more bottle age.

Nice complexity on nose. Soft entry on palate that firms up a bit on the finish. Less flamboyant than the zins in general. I would have liked more energy and palate penetration.

14.6% abv. Dark ruby, very aromatic. Black raspberry, black pepper, dark chocolate and a minty floral note. A powerhouse with great depth and length, but with a smooth, velvety texture. Extremely enjoyable now, with the potential for significant improvement.

Remarkable wine. Very fresh and persistent berry aromas, and that bright, and fresh berry moves to the palate in a fresh, tangy and tart (in a good way) black fruit profile. A lot of blueberry, dark blueberry. Long legs, long finish, long life ahead of it. A lot of grip. This is way better than the '12 and rivals the '14. Doesn't feel oaked, aclohol is integrated. It has a freshness and purity coupled with depth to it that I have not experienced before in a wine.

14.6% abv. Very dark ruby, moderate aromatics. Plums, black pepper, black cherry and mountain spice. Deep, concentrated, rich and long. While this will improve over the next 5-12 or more years, it is very enjoyable now.
Drank way, way too young, but others in the cellar for the long haul. Dark as night, big tannins and good acidic backbone. Tighter than a drum. The black fruits and concentration are there in spades as you would suspect. Everything in place for a 10 year stretch in the cellar. Would not touch these till 2025.

Decanted, for sediment, for 4 hours and consumed over 4 hours. Secondary flavors with good fruit with relaxed structure. Maybe faded a bit at the end.

Raspberry nose with deep blue fruit, cracked pepper. Lighter in mouthfeel than expected with some acidic notes in the finish. Drink on, Wayne.

Tight aromatics, not too tannic, but monolithic. I am not seeing that these get any more expressive with age.

Very little going on - especially given the wait. I don't think this has another 10 years in it.

Decanted 1/2 hr. Not much nose. Tastes of darker fruits & plum. Split into 5 pours. Taste intensity fell off a bit in the last 2 pours.

A one hour decant and this is ready to drink. Typical Turley Petite and does not disappoint. Has years left but very good now.
