Riesling Freaks lazy afternoon lunch (Chez Hugo - Baltimore): Fully mature nose displaying ripe yellow fruit, peach, creme brulee, candied ginseng, smoke and a hint of mineral. Fully integrated palate, concentrated ripe yellow fruit, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium to long sweet yellow fruit driven finish.

From the first sip this had more life than my last bottle - more acid, more verve. Mature with tertiary flavors mingling with caramelized pineapple. A very good wine and yet again another example that makes me wonder why Schonborn is so scorned among winos.

Opened for Barca-Atleti. As others have mentioned, it's mature and perhaps lacking a bit of verve. That said, while my German wine experience is relatively limited, but frankly, I wouldn't generally expect major verve on a 23-year old wine, so that wasn't a deal breaker for me. There was plenty of petrol, tea, nice tropical fruit, and a decent amount of acid, though I'd happily take more in the acid department.
I did enjoy the complexity of this wine, and I'll note that it really got going on days 2 &3, so I think this can hold at a decent level for some time to come. Was this better younger? I really can't say, but I found it very enjoyable and look forward to my other bottle.

Dinner (Quince, San Francisco): Quite a golden color; aromatic nose with minerality; palate is light bodied, medium sweetness but medium plus acidity that is tingling and provides excellent balance, slight white fruit; medium finish. Very nice aged riesling with just the right amount of sweetness. 89-90

Popped and poured. Colour of medium honey and gold; a nice aromatic nose of ripe red apples, apricots, and a hint of salinity and honeysuckles. This has a nice palate of ripe apricots, orange rinds, and a kiss of honey. Balanced on the palate and the acidity is still hanging in there. Medium+ body with a medium+ finish. A nice aged auslese for some after dinner relaxation.

Seems mature on the palate and nose. Nice sweetness but lacking verve and a mid-palate. Finishes pretty secondary with puer-tea like notes.
