  • Perfect showing of a poor Burgundy vintage. At its best showing. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, forest, ripe red fruits, toast. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Long finish. Did not decant, drink straight from bottle. Will not improve with ageing. Suggest to drink up to enjoy its current form.

  • Double decant and serve. Nose a bit shy but interesting strawberry, mushroom and cigar. The palate is integrated tannin with nice red fruit, wood, smoke. Very elegant and mature wine to enjoy now

  • Drank from magnum. The nose was excellent with notes of mushroom, toast, truffle, cooked red fruit, strawberry. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. After aeration, theres slight notes of green bell pepper. Previously for the vintage 2004 that I drank from Trapet, I had realised that for 2004, theres always some notes on green.

  • A much lighter and elegant expression of the Chambertin vineyard, but still a very complex and engaging wine. Red fruit driven, with dried cherry being the dominant note, this also has touches of dried orange and raspberry, then you get the herbal, spice and graphite notes and a healthy dose of tertiary leather and white mushroom flavors. All of this fans out on a pretty long finish. It's highly complex and, in that way, very balanced and complete, but it states its point calmly rather than shouting it from the rooftops. The tannins are very smooth and pretty fully integrated, with acid pretty solidly med+.

Pretty classic example of a great vineyard in spotty vineyard. On the positive side, there's no ladybug notes and any sort of green reads, "mildly herbal", rather than any sort of bell pepper, big "G" green. That said, this is certainly not a powerhouse wine, but that's not necessarily all bad, as it paired beautifully with a wide array of wildly complex food. This is a bit of a right tool for the right job sort of wine.

This didn't feel like it was in danger of falling apart, but I think it is at or near peak and probably won't reward all that much more cellaring.

  • PNP into Riedel Big O glass (“Root” day): Medium garnet to the eyes.

Woody, herbal and mature darker red cherries fruits here.

Very good and accessible structure here.

    93-94 points.

  • Had previously tasted vintage 2004 numerous times and find it in its peak with tertiary and fully developed notes. However today the notes were rather more restrained in the nose. Only smell notes of faint red fruits, strawberry, red currant, spices, mint, and green. The tannin was grippy and was astringent. It doesn't help by the fact that the cork broke into half. I could probably guess the wine wasn't kept well or bottle variation. Did not decant and tasted directly from wine glasses.

  • Blind tasting Burgundy night for 5 pax paired with 1 star Michelin Chinese cuisine.

2004 Trapet Chambertin: Garnet in colour. Red fruits, strawberry, oak, medium+ acidity and tannin. Ranked 1st by consensus.

2003 Faiveley Exchezeaux: Spices, herbal, medium+ acidity and tannin. Slight bitter on the palate. The nose is slightly closed and after an hour in the glass reveal red fruits from the nose. Ranked 2nd by consensus

2016 Albert Bichot Romanee Saint-Vivant: Nose is closed even after 1-2 hours in the glass. Some flora notes. The wine leg indicates its a young wine but yet approachable. Ranked 4th by consensus.

2009 Perrot Minot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Echanges: Nose is closed. Toast, medium+ acidity and tannin, peppermint and flora notes. The wine leg indicates young wine. Ranked 3rd by consensus.

WTON for me was 2004 Trapet Chambertin follows by 2003 Faiveley Exchezeaux, 2016 Albert Bichot Romanee Saint Vivient, and lastly Perrot Minot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Echanges. Expected much more from Saint-Vivant which happen to be the priciest and was disappointed, it goes to show the importance of the right vintage drinking window. 2009 Perrot Minot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Echanges did not exhibit the usual typical nose of Chambolle Musigny, 2009 was a good vintage and it needs time to show the potential. Despite being in an extreme heat year, 2003 Faiveley Exchezeaux did well when blind, able to stored and will get better as it aged. 2004 Trapet Chambertin was an expected winner before the blind taste, Trapet had never disappointed me. 2004 is a poor vintage for red burgundy and hence it's in the optimum drinking window. A world-class producer and undervalued.

  • Cherry, tropical fruits, slight banana, fig, prune, plum, very sweet smell. Medium acidity and tannin. Garnet in color. The nose > taste. Excellent nose.

  • Dark russet in colour, classic mushroom and compost notes that soften over time in the opened bottle allowing the red fruit and spice to come forward, soft tannins with a velvety mouth feel and breadth across the palate that finished with a length of savoury after-notes befitting the complexity of this grand cru. A perfect time to drink.

  • Opened 3 hours upon serving into Schott Zwiesel Burgundy glass (“Flower” day): Pale ruby to the eyes.

Herbal notes, nice red berry and cherry fruits. Slightly preserved black prunes, chestnuts. Good finish with good minerality and spices.

    93 points.

  • Tasted blind, lovely mature nose, thought a northern Rhône, a Chambertin! After time, mushrooms, savoury, faded away after 2 hour mark but a beautiful Pinot

  • Still amazing, complex, full of life. Beautiful wine

  • From a tasting at the domaine. Given the vintage I really approached this trying to hunt out green notes and general flaws and was pleasantly surprised by this. I think it is probably at a nice drinking plateau and I don't see this as being hugely long lived in context to a Chambertin, but it isn't like this is hanging on for life. The texture of this is one of the most striking features with a silkiness that manages to be both rich and possessing a near weightlessness. The tannins are fully integrated, which only adds to the impression of stressing finesse over power. Trapet has quickly shot up the list of my favorite Burgundy producers.

  • A surprisingly good showing for this vintage. Held its own served alongside 04 Ponsot CDLR VV…in fact many preferred this over the Ponsot.

  • Wow! Amazing nose - incense like. Raspberry/Blackberry, with cedar, sandalwood and a pine/menthol hint. Out of this world nose. On taste fruit with great balance on the acidity. Fine tannins on the front of the palate with some need to resolve over time. Long nuanced finish. An amazing, elegant ethereal wine. Not a big bold Rousseau but a finely balanced elegant and nuanced Chambertin. There is a lot of nonsense about green notes in other comments - nothing further from the truth. No Mirepoix or green notes(vegetal) at all.

  • Fully developed and not likely to improve, this is overall a very good effort for the difficult vintage of 2004; the nose has lovely dark fruit, dried spice, damp leaves, and just a hint of the green note that is common in the '04s. The palate has lovely balance and while it doesn't have the depth or power I'd really expect from a Chambertin it is quite fine and enjoyable.

  • Much better than the Stacole bottles. Not a bad bottle among the 9 consumed. But flavors are all earth, minerals, no real presence of fruit. Still some preferred it over the Rousseau CDLR, but not many.

  • Back vintages from three Burgundy producers with Tryffelsvinet (Grappe, Stockholm): Nose with cherries, spice, smoke, animal notes, some herbaceous and green notes with undergrowth. The palate is medium bodied+ with spice, mineral, strawberries and cherries, somewhat too present tannins, and a slightly angular impression. The nose is better than the palate. 89 p
This was definitely a good 2004, but unfortunately it still shows quite a lot of the 2004 character on the palate.

  • Did not show particularly well in the comparison with Damoy and Mugneret Ruchottes. maybe still on the early side. But you can sense the stuffing is there for a future better showing. Especially on the finish.

  • Tasted alongside a bottle of the same wine from another source. This bottle was as expected. Wjhile it showed the acidity of the vintage, the fruit was still alive and the wine was in pretty good balance and not in danger of fading. No evidence of the ladybug influence here.

  • Tasted alongside another of the same bottle from a different source. This was much inferior. Maybe badly stored. While not a bad wine, just not what it should have been based on BH tasting notes and also on the other bottle. Very astringent, tannic, fruit fading.

  • Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Gevrey Chambertin (Rodwell House): From a limestone colloidal soil. The colour is light crimson running to a brown-orange rim.
Aromas are initially quite vegetal, then morph into more fragrant sour raspberry, strawberries, fennel fronds and rosehips. There are underlying tertiary hints of button mushrooms with animal, ammoniac and feral qualities.
The palate entry is intensely flavoured yet is light-bodied, elegant wine with a crisp acidity.
Quite a sinewy, almost chewy textured wine, there is more pull on the back palate that becomes quite biting with the rasping acid. Medium length, there is a touch of warmth on the finish as the tannins coat the gums. Not the most effortless wine to drink, I found it challenging and slightly more developed than expected.

  • Red Burgundy vs. Cold Climate Pinot tasting (Colicchio & Sons, New York, NY): Tasted blind. Brought by Al. Medium ruby red. Herbal nose: tobacco, cannabis, green pepper. Similar on the palate: green peppery but better. Still young, some oak, good acid, but green all the way through. Guessed 2004 Burgundy - and indeed this wine was pretty decent but did not at all transcend the vintage. Nose - 3.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 13.5/20

  • Bourgogne tasting event (Wine Route TLV): though the aroma is a god one, this vintage did not yield the expected result: on the palate it is disappointing.

  • Red robe starting to lighten a bit. Luscious wine in mouth full and round. Typical notes of cherries and animal notes. Finishes on earthy tones. Very agreeable.

  • Ruby, Med-High tannin, High acidity.
Black berry, plum on the nose with oak background but not overwhelming. Aroma is closed when opening and tannin is very tight and green. Savoury and meaty on the palate. After decanting 1 hour the wine become more expressive and shows some spicy herb aroma.
