  • First bottle was gone...almost like soy sauce, salty, not pleasant. But, pulled a second, fearing they were all shot, and found it nice. There was still fruit, and still a bit of that Washington austerity in earlier Cabernets--sort of viney, vegetable, but not in a bad way. Certainly time to drink.

  • Bright disc. Moderate sediment (definitely decant). Deep garnet with red rim. After 60 minutes in decanter, the wine shows moderately intense aromas of black fruit and chocolate. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and heavy, somewhat coarse tannins. The flavors are somewhat unidimensional and mirror the nose. Medium, slightly dry finish. I suspect that the tannins will ultimately outlast the fruit on this one. This is in stark contrast to my previous tasting 2/23/06. Drink 1/10-12/15.

  • Very very good...little to add to other reviews. Deceptive, in that for me it's one of the first WA CSs tasted fully mature. Has smoothed out, yet solid fruit...we often find WA CSs a bit tart and fruit harder to find. This came across, if blinded, as a very typical CA kind of CS. We really enjoy and have some to go. We won't save them purposely.

  • A bottle was taken from my personal cellar to the home of Jim and Kris McMillan (to consume while watching "American Idol"). Although a formal tasting note was not made, it can be said that the wine showed excellent fruit, ample but very supple tannins and overall good structure. It really showed no signs of age, tasting very youthful. It was an absolute "crowd-pleaser." I think that this wine will drink well during a window longer than initially estimated.

  • 1/05: Was very, very good. Did indeed have a somewhat "Rhone" nose, but also bit of spice as well as herbs. Plenty of fruit, still quite tannic, but smoothed out (day 2). Great bargain.

  • Showing much younger than the previous few bottles. Night 1: Nose of fruit and berries. Rather simplistic but signs are there that it isn't ready to show secondary influences. In the mouth it is smooth, suave, and a delight. Finish is a 20 or so seconds and seamless. Night 2: Some herbal components show in the nose. The initial taste reveals a much softer, slightly rounder mouthfeel. Finish is still seamless. One more night may reveal more. I still find this wine an absolute steal at $20.

  • Love this wine. One of my best QPRs. Dark red core showing little age. Nose was all big black fruit framed with some herbal and sweet cedar scents. Dark fruits highlighted with blackberry. Think and extracted but not heavy. Seemless finish that lasted a good 45seconds. Still could use a little time to lengthen out. I believe it is just starting to hit its stride. I like Kiona but they really outdid themselves with the 99 vintage.

  • Loads of caramel at first open. After about an hour, much has blown off. Has become strong with vanilla and blackberry. Touch monolithic
Plenty of fruit and tannins. Dark fruit. Touch of earth. Well balanced and integrated. Needs some time for the tannin to soften but plenty of fruit to last.

  • Bright disc. Opaque ruby with red rim. Intense nose, showing currants, cherry, oak, vanilla and ripe plum. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with medium and quite supple tannins. Medium, smooth finish. Very nice and better than many 1999 Napa Cabernets which are fetching 2-3 times the price.
