2008 red Burgs (Noize): A complex but nicely integrated nose, that had some clementine fruit (which smelled great), a hint of savoury maturity and became slightly oakier with time in the glass. That character carried across on the palate, which again seemed beautifully smooth as well as crisp and peachy, and went wonderfully with our fish. Probably my favourite wine tonight.

What a cracking wine, still fresh and with complex aromas and flavours of smoke, pineapple, crushed grapefruit and spiciness which last forever in the finish.

13.5% alcohol. Good cork (length and density) but strangely anonymous: nothing printed on it except the initials FS in a circle, well an ellipse if you want to be pedantic (but in that case what do you call an ellipse drawn on a cylinder?); no AOC, no vintage. Pale colour. The nose is reserved, with some confectionery notes. The mouth is a strange mixture : it opens with buttery notes reminiscent of warm climate chardonnay, and it finishes with rasping acidity and a return of the confectionery aromas; not very much in between. Maybe this will evolve into something more harmonious, but as it is this is not very likeable. Definitely not a repeat purchase. Terrible value for money even though this was cheap by Burgundy 1-er cru standards.

Nick's 2008 Burgundy - Noize (Noizé, London): 1/3, under DIAM. Shows citrus, white peach too, medium bodied, nsome nice breadth here, peach, citrus, lightly sour, vibrant acids, finishes well. Excellent.

Honey and pineapple, ripe apple and a hint of cheese. The palate is ripe and lux and with tropical fruits, cloves and spices.

Disappointing. Rather taught, without any outstanding features. A little butter, acidity that kept popping its head up. Short.
