  • Vertical, intense, very impressive indeed. Showing a Bordeaux-like structure (not just the bottle format), good local spice, dense, concentrated fruit. This is mature but no way declining, rather driking a point.

  • The Mourvèdre is shining through here, there is a display of animal and leather notes on top of dark fruit in a very upright frame. Very distinctive with a great deal of complexity. There are notes of tobacco and soil as well. Great wine, true to place and close to maturity now. Birthday present from Andre. Thank you, much appreciated. In the garden with Niels.

  • I have to little experience with this wine - but this was great. Vertical, aristocratic in structure, fully mature, but in no way declining, plenty of black, bright fruit here and Bordeaux-like showing, albeit with a good amount of local spice

  • There was a wow factor in drinking this surprising and very good value wine for 1998 at under 10 pounds a bottle. It was also surprising in how big, persuasive and long this wine was too. At first I expected a fruity quaffer and then when I had finished the bottle could see that it had become a superb and individual wine. Drink up.

  • I was surprised to find that I still had a bottle from this vintage of my favourite Languedoc estate. Though the colour was still deep and vigorous, I don't think that this bottle had quite the excellence of a previous one in 2011 nor of my last bottle of 2000 earlier this year. The aromas on the nose and plate showed primary fruit, some sweet cherry, at first but with airing red rose, Southern herbs, anise and some mint, tar and leather came up and pushed the fruit into the background. Body was medium to full, the palate was well focussed, harmonious with gentle acidity, classically shaped and quite mouth-filling and long with ripe tannic support for the finish. However the alcohol (14%) was more obtrusive than I noted on that previous bottle which is probably a sign of a little fading. Still very good though.

  • Drunk from magnum, decanted about 90 minutes before tasting. Nose a little muted; vanilla and roasted fruit bouquet. Extremely harmonious in the mouth, almost creamy in its smoothness. Fruits of the forest, spices and herby notes on the palate. Very long finish. An impressive wine; I suspect it needs drinking up at this stage of its life.
