My contribution to the afternoon. Rather muted / demure. Reductive upon opening and lacking some of the high toned red fruit that one might expect. An affable wine, but far from its apex.

not blind Both bottles similar in taste and not blind. Very elegant, some red berries, violet, oak very good integrated, sure too young but very accessible in this stage. 95-96

Some Top Shelf Burgs (My home): This was opened about 30 minutes prior to the tasting and obviously is quite young. That said, it was outstanding with lots of upside. Purple/ruby in color. The nose is so pretty with a floral note (violets?) giving way to cherries and dark cherries. Very clean nose at the moment. On the palate, this is juicy tannins if that makes any sense. Really merging the tannins, the acid into a close to seamless texture. Lots of black cherry fruit that seems deep and bottomless if a bit impossible to gauge at the moment. Some red cherry fruit and spice emerge with air. Long finish. Probably should not open for 20 years, but it was a great experience right now.

Certainly a vintage where this wine is approachable and enjoyable young. Flirty fruit and rounded exotic spice. The nose is quite open with soft spice. However, not much palate complexity here yet, but quite pleasing.

DRC 2013 horisontal (Territoriet, Oslo): Mye av det samme her. Konsentrert men innpakket frukt. Pent syrespill her også. Ung, med harde kanter. Presis langt finish med tanniner som tørker godt i munnhulen.
Gir ikke den største gleden nå og begge disse trenger å få hvile en god stund. Greit med parkett som bør slipes ned.

DRC 2013 Vintage Presentation: 3.5 ha / 9’586 btls. in 2013, 21hl/ha. Medium-light garnet. Like in all seven DRC Grand Cru reds today the still quite closed nose started with a light touch of bee wax overlaying the red fruit. I don’t know why, may be it is just the stage they are in. On the palate though the tell tale DRC aromas with the signature notes of grape stalks, earth, subtle spices and a very light animalic touch come through. Like in the Echezeaux there is predominantly red fruit in the nose but with additional licorice notes. The tannins are very present also here like in all Crus in this vintage calling for 10 year’s of patience in the cellar. I found the difference between the Echezeaux and Grand Echezeaux quite small.

Tasted at the yearly DRC vintage presentation of Martel in St. Gallen. For me the secret star of this tasting. You can´t beat the value for money with this one. Still tannic, but very fine and already approachable. Lots of kirsch, some sweet wood, bee wachs. Powerful in the mouth and long ending

Annual Martel DRC Tasting: Vintage 2013: The oak is here dominating. Fruit in the background. Mineral and almost austere. Immediately broader and juicier. The personality jumps out on the finish, firm, elegant and saline. Very subtle tannin. Second sip: A bit rounder than the Echezeaux, more balanced, but similarly powerful. Beautiful progression towards red fruit and with balsamic tones.

2013 DRC dinner (Operakällaren): Quite discrete on the nose. Full bodied with lingonberry, acid berries, slightly angular. But after a while in the glass opens up with more dark fruits and truffles.

Houze's Wedding; 12/9/2023-12/10/2023: 00335/9586. Lots of whole cluster aromatics, woody, clean, lifted and very fresh showing the vintage coolness. Delicious. 93-94

Compared to th Echezeaux, this is the more elegant wine.A clear cut, playful red fruit, dry, light, en danseuse. Still young.

Good aromatics but lean on the palate like other 2013 DRCs.

Ready to go right now but will clearly develop more detail over time. Outstanding sweet red fruit and spice. Less elegance and more power.

Good wine, but lacks the precision of the finer recent vintages. (8010/9586)

Too young, but awsome amount of finesse and style. Gigantic potential...
