A little disappointing, particularly compared to the regular bottling. This has a very soft profile of pears, melon, cantaloupe and maybe a little banana and while there is a fair amount of acidity, it is missing any sort of citric aspect that would balance it out. It isn't flabby like a 90's California Chardonnay, but it is just has no sharp edges whatsoever. There are some mineral notes on the finish, but they are present, rather than pronounced.

Stone fruits, pears, tropical fruits, banana. Med+ acidity. Minerals. Finishes with a tangy note. More concentrated than their regular alvarinho but not better. Overall, seems a bit too ripe and the banana note is a distraction.

Floral and tropical notes dominate. I think banana (Amyl acetate) notes dominate a bit too much and make me think its more of a fault than anything else. Ripe pineapple, ripe flowers (does such a thing exist?) Just kinda blah +1 for Anselmo Mends

2015 Port Harvest Tour; 9/26/2015-10/3/2015 (Portugal): Very light straw in color. 15% aged oak, 85% in stainless steel. Subtle nose with some light tropical fruit, but the oak-aged 15% really eliminates the minerality that was present on the nose of the “classic” version of this wine. Creamy texture, well integrated flavor profile that evolves on the palate. Some peach and lychee notes on the palate as well.

Essentially in the same crisp and linear style as the "normal" Soalheiro, this old vine cuvée displays more depth of flavour and intensity and a greater weight of fruit. Pear and peach, some grassy notes and a "sigh of the seething sea". Mineral, vibrant and fresh, as clean as a whistle, slightly short on the finish. Lovely stuff.
