If anything, tasting even better now. Otherwise, same note as previous: Big and beautiful, this Grenache/Syrach blend has plenty of ripe fruit, but not too ripe, with lovely lavender notes and some earth. Packs a punch for $10 a bottle.

BBQ Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 65-80 yr old Grenache (55%?) & 45 yr old Syrah (45%?) from "...the limestone-rich terroir of Saint-Drézèry in the eastern Languedoc," fermented & aged in concrete tanks for 12 mos.
N: RIPE berries with an INTRIGUING smoky component
P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which while staying within hailing distance of the init frt, evolves into a LONG, balanced, poss very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a tangy/swtness to the fairly unoffensive, dusty tannins. For now with BBQ, & then drinking through '22? 15.0% ABV; My EXC-, *poss* EXC for QPR? 91 pts WA & 83 @ '17 Decanter World Wine Awards. [This vendor's $15.95 is now $3 < the least of wine-searcher's dwindling offerings.]
Note: Also tasted on 6/16 & 9/1/18, and 7/20/19

P: Med, poss LM, body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by just a smidgin of astringent pucker which QUITE resolves by the LONG, balanced, pleasant finish with hints of an incipient, quasi-bitter flatness. Opened one hour before meal and then ran through aerator just before serving and it was very, very good. Reidel Bordeaux glasses with Cornish hens. I think this could be a 90 in a few more months or a year

Intense stuff and not for the faint-hearted at 14.5% alcohol. Bold flavors of ripe dark fruits - marry this with food that stands up to it (in our case slow roast beef brisket) and you get a tasty, pleasurable, not too complex match. Liked it!

N: Ripe, jammy berries, but NOT over the top; Smoke later
P: LM body; Rndish entry with nice, ALMOST swtish frt met by some firming structure which transitions into a LONG finish with a tangy/SWTNESS (35:65) to the dusty tannins.

The slightly herbal nose has elements of wet earth, stone fruit, berries, and sassafras. The delightful palate is rich with prune, stone fruit, and spice, with a slight bite from the 15% ABV. I’ve had this wine before, a 2012, and it’s just as good as I remember.

Fairly muted nose of dried roses and dried apricots, beef stew after 6 hours decanting. Big juicy flavor of plums, blueberries and blackberries in the mouth with lots of depth, height and almost chewy texture. Medium length finish of violets and medium roast coffee. Great with steak. Did not open up until 4 hours of decanting so should cellar for a good 10 years. Crazy big wine that I would expect to pay $30-40 for if it was made in the new world.

Not ready yet, but going to be a keeper. Used Venturi to open it up and Reidel Bordeaux glass. I would guess in less than two years it will be pretty good, especially for the price point (at Costco)

Blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan. Medium plus nose shows game, white pepper, raspberry, dried roses, fresh earth or funk. Palate matches with medium body, light spice, some funk, black fruit, red fruit, dried blackberry, peppercorn, anise. Lots going on here but it's elegant too. Nicely done, versatile, very good QPR.

Outstanding QPR. It was very good when I first got it - rich, dense, ripe blackberry with good balance - it has improved a bit with age. Drink now.
