Weekly tasting group RWP #239: Chile (@ RW): In the bouquet rustic barnyard flavors, bell pepper , toast and coffee. On the palate red and dark berries, vanilla, sweet spices, laurel, good acidity and mild, round tannin. Nice and well balanced wine.

Bottle at West First. Really, really good. Dark berries, spice and earth on the palate. Big, but not unapproachable. Almost leathery but not unpleasant. Smooth finish but enough tannins to keep in balanced. Better than I would expect for the price, but it is a Carmenere.

Nice dark ripe berries on the nose, starts out light then builds into deep & dark, full-bodied, nice tannins on the finish, none of the green notes you get from unripe Carmenere. Really nice for a cab drinker.

Color: Deep blood/ruby hues. Some translucency. Nose: Lemongrass with pepper and dark chocolate. Flavor: Delicate and herbaceous wine. Leather, bell pepper, and black peppercorn penetrate the front. By the end, a smokiness emerges leading to a smooth and lingering finish. Light to medium bodied.
Excellent Chilean wine, especially given the price. Would suggest serving at a slightly lower temp (64-67 degrees).

Black licorice on the nose and cassis on the palate. Very earthy and old world style. Probably my favorite South American wine thus far!

Dark fruit, chalk, inky, pepper. Not as rich as expected but still very tasty.

Meaty, mineral, lots of granite and some exotic pepper. Not really green pepper to the nose at all. Very positive example of Carmenere.

dark red berries, forest floors, pepper, surprising palate, very bordeauxesque, excellent complexity, spices...definitely outdrinks its pricepoint.
