Early Feb 2023: golden amber color; intense nose of dried apples and grapefruit; smooth on the palate accompanied by a light sweetness balanced with a mild juicy acidity.

Light yellow, green shimmer --- Nose fresh, river stones, basil, lots of citrus notes, yellow fruit, peaches, saline --- Palate fresh, smooth, nice acidity, nice flow, nice sweetness, watery, stone fruit, yellow fruits, some peaches, nice citrus wrapping, nice tart aspects --- Finishes pretty long on its sweet, fruity and tart character. Very, very nice vine. So vivid and fresh, balanced and animating. Very tasty.

Traditional turkey dinner, late Oct 2015: deep golden yellow color; lots of different fruit smells and flavors: exotic, lemon & tree fruits; very balanced on the palate; little, but well integrated acid; satin-like mouthfeel & smooth finish.

Medium yellow, green aspects --- Nose cool, sweet, candied herbs, wild honey, melon, some dried apple, salty mineral breeze, apricot --- Palate fresh, crisp, acidic, boiled apples, ripe yellow fruit, citrus notes --- Finishes on tart, acidic charachter, lots of minerality and flash back of citrus notes, some white pepper. Still young and somehow wild, not sure it will mature, might remain young until the end.

Dry with refreshing well-balanced acidity, although I was wondering if the alcohol shows a tiny bit? Nice and airy, but not quite as weightless as the lower alcohol bottlings from Saar and Mosel. Nevertheless, I preferred this one to the J.J. Prüm 11 kabinett, which was served at the same time.
The Scharzhofberger was cleaner and more interesting on this showing. Love the complexity of the wine with spices, citrus, slate minerality and some floral notes. From d-mag.

Van Volxem Tasting (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): Very solid – this was a step up from the first two wines. Here, for the first time, we had a real sense of the minerality of the Saar. The nose was very minerally in fact, with tons of slate and stoney accents mingling amidst shades of ripe fruit, with green apples moving into white peach aromas. With time, these opened up into beautiful scents of white flowers and little bits herb. Nice. The palate was quite lovely. It was as rich and ripe as the straight Alte Reben that preceded it, with a real weighty feel, and sweet red apple flavours seasoned with lots of sweet spice, but this was also underpinned by a beautiful minerality and an effortlessly elegant balance. There was wonderful depth and breadth across the midpalate leading into a lovely long finish that layered the backpalate and lingered on and on in beautiful accents of flower, mineral and spice. Very good. This was a really solid wine, but it does need plenty of time yet – it is still so primary and tightly wound. Give it another 6-7 years at the very least.

At a Van Volxem tasting event. Straw yellow. Reserved nose of quince, apple, minerals and elder flower. Quite soft mouth feel, softer than most Rieslings I know. I prefer more acidic sappyness.

Winery Visit (@ Van Volxem, Saar): Flowers, blossom and smoke in the bouquet. On the palate very expressive and the same as in the bouquet. A mouth full of good wine; minerals, ripe fruits like pineapple, smoke and beside the good acidity some sweet impressions. Beautiful and clean wine.

Perfect balanced wine with freshness, touch of sweetness and minerality. Probably at its peak? Great P/Q, because of that an extra point.

Fantastische wijn op mooie leeftijd van 10 jaar. Briljant strogele kleur. Veel mineraliteit en toch afgerond en vol. Top

Van Volxem Tasting with Roman Niewodniczanski (Praelum Wine Bar): Dry, but not terribly structured. Feminine in style. Medium-bodied. Quite balanced with acidity not sticking out. Long finish. An elegant wine compared to the more masculine Altenberg.
