This wine's vibrancy starts with its inky, electric purple color. After just an hour, it opened up and continued to do so, adding complexity and bite to its profile. Rich leather dominates over the fruit.

12 year old wine or two year old wine? It's hard to tell.this stuff is dark purple, and shows tons of black fruit. There is still matching tannin, so no hurry to drink these if you have them. Certainly gives me reason to bury my 2010 and 2011 Lytton Estate PS bottles.

with venison pie. no idea where or when i got this bottle. it was fantastic, just how petite sirah should taste. gorgeous color, great elegant nose. all dark fruit and very fresh. probably at the top of its lifecycle, no reason to try and let it get better. it has aged beautifully and this should have 7-10 yrs on it. after about two hours it really opened up and got more complex. Should have decanted. Great wine all around.

Drank based on numerous notes below. This still seemed vigorous to me. Tannic and not overwhelmingly fruity i would opt for sitting on this for at least 5 more years so the tannins can resolve more. Not a special ridge ps but not atypical either

Decanted for about 20 minutes and overall was excellent. Smelled of dark blackberry fruit with some cocoa and vanilla bean. Tannins were very soft/ chalky and coated the whole palate which lengthened the finish. Flavors were also dark with plum and again blackberry. The Cocoa on the nose translated to mild tobacco on the palate. Structurally, this is in a gorgeous place currently! Probably another couple of years of life left, but may not benefit as the fruit flavors are beginning to dissipate.

Decanted for about a half hour before drinking and certainly benefitted from that. Could even have used more air. Still very tannic, but aged enough now that they coat the palate and are well integrated and balanced, yet nicely chalky. I love that there was still something to chew on! Most apparent are dark flavors of tobacco and chocolate with dark berry fruit, i.e. blackberry, plum, etc. Now is a good time to drink if you prefer more fruit as this will continue to get earthy and lose the little fruit that is there. For an even softer wine, it has the structure to go another 3-5 years. Beautiful wine that just again proves the consistence of Ridge's quality!

Too early to drink and rate properly, needs another 2 yrs minimum. Tried alone and with a Petite Filet spicy potatoes, and grilled green beans. On the nose there is very evident tar, dark fruits, and violet. On the tongue there are currants, a small amount of rich fruit (I would figure from the zin), raisins, and tannins in that are, in general , out of balance for the moment. This is a wonderful wine, but it's definitely too early to drink. I will update tomorrow after leaving softly corked in the cellar overnight.

Honeymoon Visit at Ridge, Lytton Springs: An inky garnet colored blend of 84% Petie Sirah and 16% Zinfandel, with some 100 year old vines contributing a small portion of the fruit. A monster of a wine with aromas of blackberry, dark fruit and pepper, which follow through on the palate. Despite its size, this wine shows excellent balance and depth of fruit, with a nice, long finish. 90-91 pts. $30.

I should take out my quill, dip, and write a letter. The color is extremely dark. The mouth feel is huge with great grip but is also leaning toward the new world side with tremendous fruit. The fruit is somewhat forward with little oak showing on the palate. Nice long finish. Great tannic backbone and spice.

Inky purple in colour. Nice blackcurrant. Brambly wine. Quite pronounced. Very tannic on the palate. Good aging potential. Needs time. Smooth oaky finish.

Ridge wines at the Lytton Springs winery: There’s a nice spicy feel on the nose, with blackcurrants and blueberries. It feels very young on the palate: quite concentrated and full with huge tannins – really chewy. This is very young and indeed only just released. It needs eighteen months to really come round I think. Very Good.

Tasted February 19, 2005 at Farpointe Wine Cellars in Shott Zweisel red wine glasses. Clear garnet color in the glass. Huge floral nose with plenty of blueberries. Palate didn't reveal much compared with that nose, mostly a little smokiness and earth with little fruit. Acidity no showing well as well. Pass.

This is past it's prime. Very bland and muddy. Nothing impressive about this. Way too long of a "drink by" date.
