Mission log 2022, drinking wine from the year I graduated high school. Loads of tannins and strung tight for a 23 year old zin. Heidi Barrett killing it like always for the long term. Most zone I’ve had at the 20 year mark start to turn into a port like style. Not this zin, can’t wait to compare to the 2000 and 2001 in the vertical I have.

The cork just came out too easy and was badly stained so I thought I was in for some trouble. I think the wine survived but was obviously impacted by the cork creating some harsher spice and more heat than usual. The finish was the better part. I preferred the recent '97 I had to this one.

I really like Lamborn Zins so I hate to say this: terrible! Decent dark fruit and black pepper initially on the nose, but it was undrinkable. It literally hurt my mouth and after a while the fruit completely faded. I suppose (and hope!) this bottle was flawed.

Well, I reconsider my previous position. I think these are more effected by oxidation via bad corks. I hit a goldmine with my last bottle as it has a nice nose of blackberry fruit framed by peppery licorice. The palate is nice a silky smooth, although a bit lighter now with age. But the body is made up for in the finish with is nice and smooth with complex overtones of tobaco and leather. This bottle shows just how well zin can age. Well done Mike Lamborn and family. Too bad its such a hit or miss proposition as the previous 2 (of 3) were no where near this good.
