Zuli visit; 11/28/2012-12/2/2012: PnP and consumed over 2 days, with no formal tasting note. Initially showed notes of balsamic and red fruits on the nose. A bit thin on the palate, with silky tannins that aren't really there in ample quantity to support the fruit, which was also pretty dried up by this point. Drinkable, but not really enjoyable.

My thin praise (to match the body of this wine) is that it is the only varietal of RM Private Selection that approached an 80. Quite some time ago I bought a mixed case of PN, CS, & Merlot for a party of box wine drinkers thinking it would be a step up from Mondavi's Woodbridge line. I was wrong and this is the case that will never end.

Light ruby red Nose: Ripe (overripe) strawberries and honey Medium body, some bitterness and sweetness in combination. Good balance. Greenish nettle and red berries on the palate. Thin aftertaste, medium length.
I'm normally not that found off Pinot, but this specimen is far better than I expected. Pinot on the nose, but more like a soft and light Nebbiolo on the palate.

Good, one of the better Mondavi Private Selections. Quite drinkable but a bit too thin for my tastes. Blend of 76% Pinot Noir, 16% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre, 2% Petite Sirah, and 2% Merlot. Fruity berry nose. Cherry and pepper flavors on the palate. A light-to-medium bodied Pinot, lacking in complexity. Easy drinking and not a terrible pick for the price. Perhaps, a decent party Pinot.

Color was thin and a bit more orange thatn I had anticipated. All I can say is that this was a cheap (gift) PN that really wasn't trying to impress me and that's what happened. It was a quaffable wine that leaned more towards a cherry cough drop than a contender for a serious wine. Not bad and one you'd serve to your non-wine drinking friends. **Ok, on a side note I have to laugh at the user who said there wasn't much there but threw 88 points at this wine!!

Fruity wine smell. Color is of light garnet; thin appearance. Taste: light berry, taste of cherries; light pepper; smooth tannin; slight more merlot character. mild heat on the end; after 1 hr of breathing - more prominent sour cherries. Went well with asian, fusion pasta dish. Bottom line: okay if you're looking for something slight different to try - slight more body than merlot -less than CS, syrah, PS.

Clear, pale ruby colour with a pinky rim. Clear, medium intensity of red fruit; raspberry, cherries and strawberries. Youthful. Off-dry, medium plus acidity, soft and light but unripe tannins. Light body. Feels unbalanced. Acceptable but no complexity of any type. Short length of finish. Would match simple party food.

great wine for the $$... let sit for at least 45 minutes... it will open up to a fuller less acidy wine. I highly recommend as a daily type of drinker vrs those 20-30 dollar wines. Try it with Velveta Mac and Cheese and some ham... yum!

The light ruby color is accompanied by a nose of bright cherries little else. At first taste this is a very light, fruity wine like gamay beaujolais. There is decent acidity, and the wine is quaffable with no tannins or grip at all. After one hour open this gains a little weight, sheds the gamay-like fruitiness, and takes on a touch of spice. In the end, though, there are many better daily drinking pinot noirs at the same or even better price than this lower-end Mondavi.

Light bodied with plenty of acid and not too much oak. An okay food wine at under $10. I've had better for the price, but I've had many more that were worse.

Very good California Pinot Noir, predominately cherry and blossoms with a small bit of oak. Very smooth, but a bit thin.
