Super Tuscans (Reasonably priced) (Lou's): Ruby in color, clear but a bit flat. This looked like it had some age and I was surprised to see it was a 2012. I don't think this was a proper bottle given that. The nose was dominated by a green streak, call it herbal or even dill with little fruit. Very soft on the palate. Some black cherry fruit but the green carries over. Tart acidity. One of the few wines we agreed upon as it was easily the last place vote.

I have always been a fan of La Spinetta, especially the Bionzo. This Sangiovese offering is all one would expect from this great producer. Quite simply, a great everyday wine, especially when paired with red Italian sauces. Light, subtle fruit, very mild tannins.

Opened 45 minutes before tasting. Dark violet in color, slightly watery to the eye. On the nose and the palate, a shade more black fruit than red, with some dust and sharp spice. More fruit than I usually associate with La Spinetta, and it opened up much more quickly, tannins are present but not oppressive, medium finish. I'll quibble it could have used just a shade more acidity to round it out, but really, this is a totally solid showing. Nicely drinkable already, it'll get better for a few years yet.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #019: Sangiovese, Italy (By PV): In the bouquet cherries, red berries, some herbs, barnyard, bell pepper and forest. On the palate juicy cherries, ok acidity, a touch of sweetness, good oak, mild tannin and a medium length. Nice wine.
