PNP. Has peppery dark red fruit zin notes but also a lot of heat. Reminds me of some Paso cabs and blends. QPR would be decent if a little less hot, RS, ripe; etc. Almost there. Drink up.

After a hard week this is just great. An absolute pleasure to just hold in the mouth and let that 16% alc soak into your membrane.
It doesn't have the complexity, that weird succulent black magic of The Prisoner, but it doesn't miss it. It's has it's own identity. Unashamedly ripe and sugary but it also has a linear darkness of It's own, not multi faceted, but like black sugar and descending. It makes you pause and think.
Wines like like Saldo and Prisoner really make me re think pre conceptions of Zinfandel. Things come in and put of favour. Will wee see a Zin boom one day? I kinda hope so, if it's done well.

P: Med, poss MF, body; ALMOST swtish frt NICELY counterbalanced by acidity, all of this morphing into a LONG, tangy/swt finish with the BAREST hint of very, VERY fine tannins. For now & into '20, poss longer. My G+/VG-. 89 pts WS. [This vendor's $24.95 is at least $3 < everyone else on wine-searcher!]

Pepper, blackberry brambles, blueberry, damp forest floor and mushrooms on the nose. Early red and black Berry, flavors turn a bit earthy, peppery and not altogether pleasant mid palate. strong dry and sun dried, overripe blackberry on the finish.
My first try of this wine and 1st by prisoner, so I will give it another try. Did not love it.

Big, rich, intense, concentrated, thick and chewy, big dark fruit, hints of cocoa, will not short change you on flavor, however never going to wow you with complexity. I still appreciated it for what it is!

Med. color, rich, powerful, but reasonably, if not very, soft. Fine on day two. Excellent, but for the price it isn’t really better than other cheaper recent 90s.

The Fleming's 100 50/50 Tasting Event Walnut Creek, nose of heat, black cherry, plum, pepper, dusty forest floor, same on the palate, soft tannins for sure and the heat hurt it's score, as does the almost sweet, raisin like fruit, and a medium finish.

Deep purple plum hue with heavy legs. Chalk, mineral and a bit hot on the nose. Palate is heavy, dried dark fruit, a touch of cedar, cinnamon and heat. Good, but a bit hot and one dimensional.

Hot wine that needs to breathe. Once it does it's a really good zin. Really ripe and juicy, but the black pepper, oak, and licorice keep it well balanced.

I paid $35 for this wine only to fine Costco has it for $23. At $23 this would be a killer value Zin but at $35, not so much. There was a time when I and a lot of other people were drinking The Prisoner like it had the cure in it. I've since backed off on that style of wine but the Saldo brought me back to those days. Dense fruits on the nose with toasted oak. In the mouth it's jammy with good amount of spice and plenty of heat from the alcohol.
It's like revisiting the greasy diner that you loved as a kid and as nice as the meal may be it's enough not want to come back for several more years.

This bottle is right down the middle. It seems they have backed off the oak just a bit compared to my experience with recent vintages. Doesn't taste as much like a Phinney wine. Very very balanced with respect to acid and sugar; soft tannins and plenty of red fruit. My only complaint was a lack of tertiary (or even secondary) notes. If it had a more savory or herbaceous underpinning this would be a home run. Still, very good for the price
