  • Eclectic blend of Pinot Blanc, chenin Blanc, chardonnay, viognier, melon, and roussane. These wines are fun in their youth and I believe Hardy intends from them to be consumed early on, but I am really digging this wine at 5 years old. Cloudy yellow orange in color (don't look at the wine through the bottle if you're squeamish - you'd swear it has sea monkeys in it!), and highly aromatic with notes of lemon and lanolin. In the mouth this is delicious, with tangy citrus, sour lemons, and a bit of saline that adds interest. Very well integrated, and yet still very fresh.....and REALLY easy to drink! Good stuff Hardy!

  • With Fish Tacos.... poured half to 375....cloudy, slightly bruised but showing fairly bright with subdued lemon and light minerality. Great mouthfeel.
Very integrated and aged Chablis like. Chenin/Pinot blanc leading the way. Nice.

  • I like these aged. I imagine in thier youth they are bright and possibly have a spritz, but as an older wine they are still tangy, lemony and have the acid no the back to hold up to our pairing of tomatoe, fish and cream sauces.
    Drink away before summer ends

  • Right on with my first bottle of this a few years ago. I know this is the earlier drinking wine but it doesn't show any age. Lots of acid and lemon, only a very slight bitterness at the finish detracts.

  • Fine clay like sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Light greenish yellow and clear. Interesting nose with green apples, a touch of funk, and some fruit skins. Medium acidity (5/10) and light bodied. Almost a carbonated texture on the palate with some light wax, apples, tropical fruits and some thickness to it. Medium length finish. Drink now.

  • Interesting. Drink up. Decant after it has settled and cleared to increase your initial enjoyment. I also drank the dregs, but they were a touch bitter.

  • Not as good as the first bottle from a year ago. On opening it tasted bitter, almost underripe, like a champagne gone flat. After a few hours it was a bit better, relatively simple but tasty. Day 2 was not very good, had that same flat-sparkler quality to it.

  • Platonic ideal of a fun, fresh, juicy, and super tasty everyday white. Well balanced and punches above it’s weight.

  • Very consistent with Kfirestone’s note. Would add mine had a tiny bit of fizz from apparent secondary fermentation, which i enjoyed.

  • Quite interesting white wine and fun to drink. But you must set it up right for a few days and decant or you will have a cloudy, unappetizing mess. Keeping it clear is important to avoid a bitterness that I did not enjoy. Nice crunchy white, not complex, decent balance.

  • A nice, crisp, citric wine. Not a lot of complexity here, but a nice thirst quencher and very clean (no oak detected). Seems a bit pricey for me, though at $38.

  • Nice flavor and texture. Wine clouded up as it warmed up but flavor remained

  • Very refreshing, bracing acidity with notes of lemon peel, melon, flowers, honey suckle and stones.

  • Fresh, citrusy, pear/appley, herbaceous, lightly honeyish aromas, with a touch of VA sharpness; smells good. Similar flavors, good acidity, tasty, characterful. Highly drinkable and refreshing. Not a great value at $30, but certainly enjoyable.

  • After resting in a cold cellar for several months the wine became clear and deposited a lot if sediment. In my rush to taste a bottle after listening to Hardy Wallace on a podcast i grabbed a bottle and poured. The first two glasses tasted very good but then the sediment got mixed up and imparted a different, sour/bitter flavor profile. Next time I will anticipate opening a bottle and let the sediment settle to be bottom and decant. Otherwise the sediment concentrates in the final glasses and becomes too much. The blend provides a very interesting, enjoyable wine.

  • Unfiltered with significant deposits for a young wine. Corrected my mistake on the first bottle which was super cloudy. Let bottle stand for several days and decanted off the sediment. Delicious, crisp, applely, light on its feet but still with intensity and refreshingly low in in alcohol (11.5). Needs to be drunk now. A veritable kitchen sink blend of white grapes. These guys are making interesting wines with off beat labels.

  • Bright citrus and green herbs on the nose. Some cloudiness in the glass. A blended wine of surprising complexity. An easy sipper pairing well with a variety of cheeses and lighter meat or fish dishes. Relatively low alcohol, emphasizing flavor and drinkability. Fresh and enjoyable.

  • The Dirty and Rowdy 2015 "Familiar" Blanc is sourced from several vineyards across the state of California, with 28% Chenin Blanc, 22% Pinot Blanc, 18% Melon, 10% Roussane, and 10% Viognier. I have no idea how the final blend of grapes is determined by the winemakers, but this low-alcohol (11.5%), cloudy white wine is one of the most refreshing, popular bottles I have ever had the pleasure of sharing with family.

On this occasion, the "Familiar" Blanc was served at slightly too cool a temperature, in my opinion, to show its very best. Nevertheless, the contents were emptied during a turkey and sausage gumbo dinner in very short order between three drinkers. Whereas I believe that the 2014 was just a notch higher in fruit and body at this stage, the current bottling shares in the unique citrus brightness that makes this Dirty and Rowdy white so refreshing and food-friendly.

If you are in possession of a bottle or two of the 2015 "Familiar" Blanc, I humbly submit that you allow the wine to rest until next year as an accompaniment to a meal in the sun or as a light afternoon sipper - just don't chill it down for too long!

  • Love this wine every vintage. Cloudy in the glass, this shows a well-balanced, bright, light mix of lemon citrus and lingering exotic flavors. Nice minerality and depth for the level, and very food friendly.

  • Previous notes all pretty spot on. Lemony with a bit of bitter/minerality on the finish, but not too much. Must love acid.

  • A bit more restrained than prior bottles, even after a two hour decant. Signature lemon zest and piercing acidity. Lovely and delicious as always, this wine to me is what summer tastes like!

  • Bright and a slight cloudy hue yellow. Very interesting nose and palate. Nose started off with some citrus notes that we could not quite put our fingers on it, very clean too. Seems a little bit like a key lime pie or with lemon. Some added complexity with notes of melon, white flowers, honey suckles. Undertones of some sort of plant and a little stinky too when it began to warm up over the three hour period. Day two some more complexity was added with notes of dust, pears and pineapple. Lots of bright acidity (8.5/10) with lemon driving through. Bitter bite almost like underripe berries. Undertones of grapefruit on day two. Light bodied with an insanely long finish. So different than any other white we have tried, blend or single varietal. Insanely refreshing and perfect for this hot day. So intriguing and keeps changing. Drink till 2020.

  • could seriously make this a 1-word tasting note. Gulpable.

Just a fun-ass summer white that is perfect for drinking by the pool. Super cloudy pale yellow/green color (which I'm digging). First sip at P&P is all tongue searing acidity, but luckily that dissipates pretty quickly. The nose and the palate are all lemons and citrus with just a silly smooth mouthfeel that makes this so damn easy and enjoyable to drink. Luckily this only clocks in at 11.5% alcohol so I don't feel as bad drinking most of the bottle so quickly.

Great stuff Hardy - pretty sure you nailed exactly what you were going for with this one. One question for you though in regards to D&R etiquette. Is it acceptable to swig this straight from the bottle.....cause that's kinda what I feel like doing right now :)

  • Straight up lemon curd, lemon rind, a pavement type minerality on the nose, really fresh, light on its feet fruit on the palate, medium acidity and finish. Lovely wine

  • Definitely rewards a decant, as others have noted. Right out of the bottle, significant acidity that overwhelms most other characteristics on the palate, though I get some melon as well. After sitting for 6 hours, everything has come far more into balance; the acidity, while still present, has mellowed, and I get more melon and green apple. Enjoyable but didn't knock my socks off.

  • My first D&R, much more restrained than I thought it would be. I really enjoyed this one.

  • **
    C: Pale cloudy yellow
N: Reticent, with a hint of lemon
P: A blend of five grapes. Very sophisticated flavor, constantly changing with notes of toast and lemon. Long and balanced, slightly creamy, less acid than say the Au Bon Climat chard. On a first sip, one's reaction is "gimme more!" Somehow manages to be simple despite its complexity but complex despite its simplicity.

  • Chenin really comes through in sort of a bright, wooly, honeyed character but with a really solid backbone and mineral quality. Medium bodied, very drinkable, and fun. I like this quite a bit.

  • This was a tale of two wines.

On day one this was so tart that it was undrinkable to us. I literally winced at the first sip. It's a surprise because you can't smell the intensity of citrus on the nose. It was a piercing lemon flavor (acid?) that overwhelmed everything else. But there was great fruit on the nose -- melon, pineapple, lemongrass -- so you could tell there was a good wine here. So, thanks to the previous note, we put the cork back and threw it back in the fridge overnight.

Day two it's a totally different wine. The harsh acid is probably 75% less intense. Still there and ultimately still the dominant flavor, but there's a lot of other stuff going on too. Nose is consistent to day one but deeper, with some oak now noticeable. Flavors of lemongrass, pineapple, lime, and a hint of melon. It's smoothed out tremendously. In the sun, on a hot summer day, this would be very refreshing and enjoyable.

I'm guessing this would improve even further for day 3 at this point but I'm not sure it's going to make it that far. I will try to leave a glass for tomorrow. Further, and as such, I think this can improve in bottle for years to come. Like at least two years, maybe longer.

I find it valuable because it's different than anything I've ever tasted and anything we have in the cellar. It's cloudy because it's unfiltered. Look closely and you can see tiny "bits" suspended in the liquid. My wife called it a beer wine. Low alcohol, cloudy like a Hefeweizen with a lemon wedge floating in it, and extremely refreshing. This is a fun wine, but have an open mind! It's a creative effort, and I'm grateful for it!

    28% Chenin Blanc
    22% Pinot Blanc
    18% Chardonnay
    12% Melon
    10% Rousanne
    10% Viognier

    Seriously, how cool is that?!

  • Odd wine, but in a good way. Might have guessed a slightly lower acid Sauvignon Blanc if tasted blind. Some nice bitterness and salinity. Opened up nicely on day two. Give it some air if opening now.
