Not decanted and interesting from the off, but more flavours developed over an hour. Red fruit /cherry nose, rich cherry fruit with a mid-palate whoosh where scents (violets) and spices separate out revealing its complexity. Long, tannins soft and good balance. Deserves attention.

Lunch with friends at home (Elgin South Africa): Savoury bouquet; the nose is gentle with raspberry and morello cherry elements. A juicy entry with plenty of ripe black and red plum fruits, plum skin texture, and broad mid-palate structure. Quite intense, the tannins are compact and grippy with a fruit infusion. The wine isn’t elegant but works with an underlying richness or perhaps succulence balanced by a sour cherry tartness that pushes the wine along.

Vibrant, juicy and fresh. Savoury but with sweet fruit it's just so elegant and light on its feet. There's sour cherry fruit developing a little black tea and a silky texture. It has a really pleasing persistent finish. Just a pity it was my last bottle!

Lean, but very soft and juicy, with subtle red cherry fruit with a sensuous mouthfeel and fine length of finish, just let down by a slightly bitter metallic note. Very enjoyable nonetheless. CHP 88 pts

A dark garnet hue. Nose of dark berry fruits, violets and floral notes, along with earth and a saline tinge. On the palate, a lovely texture that reminds of a very fine cotton, soft and enveloping. The dark berry fruit is concentrated, well defined, and ripe but with a mineral undertone and nice acid lift. Tannins are prominent but also ripe and dissipating creating an almost chalky mouthfeel. Nice dry extract on the mid palate with a dry and balanced finish that is slightly mouth puckering and quite persistent. This is drinking well, but still quite young in character and likely has more development ahead. Excellent value.

Medium bodied tasting of crushed red raspberries with a savoury twist. The tannins are soft and this opens out to a rich full on mouthful. The finish is impressive and in a word “delightful”. It’s now drinking at its peak. 90 pts

This is a stunner - from the off an interesting bouquet, sous-bois raspberries with tea and violet coming in after a few minutes. Charming fruit on the palate, now perhaps more cherry, depth with other fruit / spices and good finish. Fabulous value.

Colour now garnet. Good depth and complexity on the nose. Ripe red cherry still there, but more savoury and earthy; forest floor and mushroom. So enjoyable to drink. Fresh acidity, but backed up with red cherry, toast, earthy finish. Medium + length. In a really nice space right now. Near maturity, but still with the depth of primary fruit to carry it another year or two.

Quite pale & limpid in colour with a classic bouquet of beetroot. On the palate incredibly light and refreshing with sweet fruited flavours of cherry and beetroot with just a hint of sulphur underpinned with lemon tea. Classic Pinot silky smooth mouthfeel giving way to a pleasurably long finish. It’s drinking superbly and will continue to do so over the next 2-3 years. Score 90 points

It's a shame that there is only one bottle left out of the case (but I do have a lot of SP's Clos du Roy so it's not all bad news!). This has just got better and better and is a solid example of a classy reasonably priced wine from one of the often overlooked regions. Time in the cellar has yet again proved its worth. Lovely nose and palate (as before) but we now have a nice finish and a reasonable amount of complexity. I'm not sure that there will be much more to come in terms of development but very happy given the price point.

Very pretty little wine. Lacks some of the depth of the Clos du Roy but a very good example of why a decent Marsannay benefits from a reasonable amount of cellar time. Looking forward to the rest of the case over the next four to five years.

Bright black cherry, earthy, subtle, integrated oak. Medium depth, but thoroughly enjoyable Burgundy. Looking forward to seeing this one develop over the next 3-5 years.

Medium to deep ruby. Elevated aromas of raspberry, Pride of India cherries, dried cranberries and wet turned earth. This is followed by some sous Bois. The entry is succulent with rich fruit intensity and softness that extends to the mid-palate. As the wine unfolds in the mouth, the tannins show a chalky-mineral grip that becomes quite stark on the finish. A razor-sharped acidity works well on the front palate cutting through the sweet red fruits but seems to protrude towards the back palate. The flavours unfold to more sour cherry, maraschino cherry and undergrowth. It feels like a Marsannay on the front and a Beaune on the back palate. Drinkable now but perhaps with some food. Be interesting to see how this shows with time in bottle.

A huge disappointment and not fulfilling the great expectations we had having tasted this more times before. There was nothing of the fresh vivid wine but only a quite clumpsy and not refined wine with no obvious charme.

Aux Trois Bourgeons, à Chablis. Un très beau Marsanay au fruité pur, précis, avec une bonne concentration mais aussi un coté aérien, des tanins fins. Excellent et une belle découverte. 90-91 pts

Light, tart red fruit and earthy. Showing its age a bit with a white rim and receeding fruit.
A rich nose of baking spices, cranberry, red cherry, raspberry, tobacco and earth. Worth sipping.

Prominent nose. Fruity and structural palate. Any wonderful Marsannay from Pataille. Still developing. Give it few more years.
