This was sublime. This is my first Grand Cru burgundy so I carefully packed it in my suitcase for a trip to Chicago from the UK to visit my son.

He’s been getting into Pinot Noir from Oregon so I thought it was about time that I reminded him who are the best in the World at Burgundy style wines.

This is young. So a double decant a couple of hours beforehand was my judgement. Nailed it for a wine at this stage of evolution was my opinion and his comment that “this is superb” said it all for me. I also have another five bottle in the cellar so happy days!

We savoured this bottle over a couple of hours from the 32nd floor of his apartment at night with the Sears Tower (I know it’s called something else these days so don’t bother correcting me!) playing the Ukrainian Flag Colours. Magical!

What an experience which is what wine should all be about in my humble opinion.

It’s not terrible but drink it up folks. I got a mail shot from The Wine Society (UK) this week and it had one of their handy vintage guides. They rated 2013 as a four out of ten. I’d forgotten what a crappy vintage it was.

Nondescript probably sums it up and the other four bottles will not be around for long. Might even give a couple away.

Ok. I know we all loved the 2016! It was sold off quite cheaply and lots of us cottoned on and bought shed loads in both halves and bottles (well I did!). With a bit of age, it became a bargain as it developed into a wine probably worth twice its fire sale price.

So when Waitrose did a 25% off promotion (uk folks) I went for it at £9.59 a bottle for the 2018.

Whooopee! Another bargain. I’m not prentending that it is as good as the exceptional 2016, but the bottle I’ve just had over two nights was right up there on a QPR basis. A solid 89 for me.

10/29/2020 3:47:00 AM - Hi Trickyone, still doesn't mean that they got baked in a container somewhere on route to the US but I guess we will never know. Saw a piece of research on Australian wine (I have a big collection of Penfolds) where a container sitting on the dockside had an air-con failure and the temperature inside reached 61C, ouch! It's worth remembering that only the premium wines get air-con as well. The rest can potentially get oven-roasted. Hope your other two bottles are belters! My six are still slumbering in the cellar alongside their sisters, The GA Rose 2012.

The wines were bought pre-release directly from a very reputable retailer in the U.S., Total Wine, as part of their Concierge program. I have 2 more bottles out of the order, but I'm scared to death to open them. I have to say 007 would be appalled at the 2 off bottles I had. Best to you.

7/12/2019 4:04:00 PM - Sorry for the delay in replying as been busy. Try and search out some 1999. Been a few 'museum' releases of this recently. Musar hold back quite a few wines each year to do this with so we get a second chance! I've bought quite a few of these. Otherwise, not really a 'bad' vintage of Musar. Just that they are all so bloody different!
