Originally I felt there were accents of sweetness, which made me think.. Is this a NW? American? When corrected that it was an OW, I immediately went down the path of Bordeaux LB, perhaps 2013. Great structure, should have led me to a hotter year, its in fact a 2015.
73% Cab and 27% Merlot, aged 14 months in barrels, 50% new.
Impressive nose which kept developing, its a truly expressive nose of currants, blackfruit and raspberries as well as spices. Then tobacco and graphite notes start to develop too.
Very deep garnet and nearly opaque in colour, the palate is medium-bodied with lively but balance acidity. Tannins grippy and chewy, and the finish is medium-length at this stage. Oak is very nicely integrated, and acidity is medium+.
This is still a baby, mainly primary notes with so much development over the next 5-10 years.
The fortunes and quality of Duhart Milon continued declining until the Rothschild family purchased the property in 1962. Château Duhart-Milon is the only Fourth Growth property in the Pauillac AOC.
It is located a mere 7-minute drive away from Château Lafite Rothschild, and the two are considered sister properties with the same winemaking team. Like Lafite, the estate is owned by part of the portfolio of Domains de Barons de Rothschild.
Chateau Duhart Milon remains one of the few 1855 Classified Growth estates without an actual chateau. In fact, all you find here are the cellars, vatting rooms, and barrel-aging cellars.
Thanks to brother TC for sharing this with AK, ET and myself at Jalan Bangkung. Perfect with a dinner of Wagyu Tomahawk and Wagyu-fat Char Kuay Teow noodles.

Very young, primary aromas mainly, but lots of potential here. Good fruit core, polished tannins and enough acidity providing support. This may add a point once mature. Drink after 2030.

After an hour, predominant notes of leather, burned rubber (!), tight tannins. Took several more hours for the smokey overtones to subside and the underlying youth of the wine comes through. Acid/tannins balanced well, wine mellows by the next day. Some fruit, oak.
Really impressed. I always saw Duhart and the other Rothschild derivatives as the mass market poor choice of pseudo luxury but this is actually really good. Much better concentration and richness than ever encountered in other vintages.

Delicious drank with lamb and caviar along with calgano cheese and some white truffle risotto. This needs another 10+ years but wanted to taste one of the the case to assure it was a good buy.

HDH annual Bordeaux tasting: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Chicago, IL): Very young, so obviously difficult to truly evaluate, but there's a really nice red fruit complexion to this wine. It's relatively light for the ripe vintage, and there's a little bitterness here that when combined with the red fruit gives this some red currant flavours. Fairly firm tannins with very judicious oak use. I would expect good things from this wine in the future.

Masterclass with in San Francisco with Saskia De Rothschild, Chairwoman DBR Lafite. Duhart-Milton is another property the Rothschild’s own.
The nose shows, bright, ripe, candied fruits with pleasant, bright florals. Blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruits, strawberries & pomegranate. Tobacco notes, leather, dry brush, limestone, crushed dry rocks, beautiful red, dark fresh florals with violets.
The body is full and shows the strength of the 15 vintage but, this is one should not be enjoyed at least for 10-15 years. Tannins are fine and firm. Ripe and slightly candied fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruits, strawberries & pomegranate. Tobacco notes, leather, dry brush, limestone, crushed dry rocks, dry river stones, black dry earth, cedar, graphite, beautiful red, dark fresh florals with violets. The acidity is really good. The structure, tension, length and balance are good now but, show greater promise down the road. The finish is very good, well balanced, elegant and persists minutes.
All wines arrived weeks ago directly from the Chateau.

It is the elegance and purity in the sweet, red berries that stand out here. Forward, soft, refined and complex, the wine is fresh and the textures exude grace. Give it 4-5 years in the cellar.

Assessing Bordeaux 2015 from bottle, part I; 11/2/2017-11/3/2017 (Bordeaux): Tasted after Château Palmer and noticeably a climb down. I do think that 2014 rivals this 2015 - and that 2016 will be better. Having said all this, Duhart-Milon is a fine bottle of wine in 2015, both rich and expressive, with smooth tannins and a cool tobacco note on the long finish. I would just say that there have been superior density levels from this wine.

Nice wine indeed, but the 2016 is so much better. That in itself does not take anything away from the fresh , vibrant character here and all its complexities offered here.

Intriguingly Pauillac #Bdx15 (Bordeaux, actually tasted during en primeur week): Far better than last year. This was a lovely wine, perfectly recalling the elegance of 1985, but with a bit more structure. The attack was smooth, leading to a juicy mid palate, with touches of graphite and cassis, a subtly full body, and a long and charming finish. Here is a great 2015, which will benefit from barrel aging to fill it out. My score range may turn out too conservative. 92-94

Freshly snipped herbs, tobacco, cedar and black currant begin a refined and stylishly spicy wine. Be prepared for a burst of sweet, pure black raspberries and cassis in the end note. Made from a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, the fruit was harvested in late September and early October, beginning with the Merlot and finishing with the Cabernet Sauvignon. 91 - 93 Pts
