Aerated: 2hrs, but should be 3hrs. Lovely wine. Full bodied. Long, Long finish. Tons of dark cherry, plum, prune, hint of hawthorn, flint, caramel, vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, nutmeg, and leather. Will have again in a few months. Great paired with hanger steak. Highly saturated wine by great producer. Nice QPR. Recommend.

Uncork the bottle 1 hour in advance. Medium to full bodied. It is similar to my other bottle 2018 Pichon Comtesse Réserve. This Les Griffons de Pichon Baron has more tobacco and spice, but less sweetness. Soft tannins. It's very pleasant to drink now.

Strong aroma and mellow tannins. Seemed 90% mature, perfectly drinkable (and enjoyable) now. Probably the finish could be longer, but otherwise better than many first wines - a natural outcome of a top vintage, a top producer, and grapes from vines that after a decade or so will go into the first wine.

Pleasant notes of violets, blackberries and plums with notes of vanilla. Mouthfeel, acidity and tannins are medium-plus. Tannins are integrated with a medium-fine grit. Overall, I’m enjoying this wine.

What a lovely wine! I don't drink a lot of bordeaux but I really should. This is a great second wine from Pichon Baron. Such a rich and dark nose and taste. Very easy to notice cassis, blackberry, vanilla and leather. This has velvety tannins and already ready to drink, you could also age this for a couple more years.

Nice 2nd wine perfectly ripe - blackcurrent, hints of leather, pencil, brick, tannins nicely polymered and fully integrated, sediment and winestone which is a good sign - drink now - at perfect state will not get any better in my view

dark cherry, redcurrant, some slight funk on the nose and light tannic grip. sediment in the bottle. not overly ripe or concentrated and not lengthy enough on the finish but still a nice wine

This is a great second wine. Clear Pichon Baron character and to some degree structure. Definitely a mini me. Classic nose - blackcurrant, cedar, with warm notes of red brick and school pencil, softened with creamy summer pudding. Just the right amount of ripeness and freshness, leading to a good finish. Maybe just a little hollow in the mid palate. Great VFM.

Had one in the cellar for awhile, decided to open tonight to pair with some wagyu strips. Decanted for 1.5 hours, still with some grippy tannins upon opening and after decant. The wine started to open nicely with dark fruit aromas and some tertiary notes like leather and lead. On the palette, dark Cherry and chocolate flavors that paired really well with the steaks. Would have wanted a little longer finish as I felt it fell flat toward the end. But overall a very good wine.

pretty mellow at this point--most of the integrated hardy tannin structure has faded, as well as the dark black fruit--more of a well-balanced, medium-bodied, dry fruit wine now...but came back to more life with more time...

Opened and decanted several hours before dinner (bottle already showing fine sediment), it was a really nice companion to a grilled strip steak. However, the wine really shone when paired with a Petit Basque cheese that had probably been kept too long--mold had to be cut off the outside of the cheese. The slight taste of that mold was very pleasant and turned the wine into an absolute "fruit bomb". A real lesson in how foods and wines can bring out different qualities in one another.

A second wine from Pichon Baron, feels bright, chewy and quite concentrated. A blend of 60% CS and 40% Merlot, aged in 60% new oak, the rest in one year oak. Medium ruby colour. Medium intensity aroma of candied dark cherries, plums, leather, graphite, pencil lead. Medium body, fresh and structured with chewy firm tannins, black fruit flavours along notes of graphite and pencil shavings.

Ruby colored, deep opacity, with some lightening to the edge. Nose was herbaceous with plum, chocolate, stone dust and balsamic notes. On the palate were forward medium strength silky tannins, medium acidity and a donut profile with lots of dark fruit surrounding red fruits and little mid palate. Toasty finish. Very nice wine.

As a second wine or label, it is an excellent drop. It had power and elegance and never got carried away. The tannin was still obvious but it was not blocky or grippy for its age. Quite savoury, it had fruits, cassis, plums, earthiness and a cocoa finish. An excellent second wine that is very good value for money. Drink now or 7+ years.

Red and dark berries in the bouquet, some smoke and sweetness as well. On the palate juicy red berries, licorice, some pleasant sweetness, good acidity and length. Although a pleasure already, it needs another 4+ years to really open up.

Decanted 2.5 hours, near perfect balance. A wonderful all around bottle. There is potential here for developing more complexity, but if you decant 2 or more hours I'm not sure there would be that much difference. I could be wrong, but with two more lying down & plenty of time, let me see what happens. Great fruit on the front, a touch of minerality & a little dry on the finish. Great QPR if you can find these lying around.

Wanted to see where this was at, obviously very young and rough, dark with more black fruit and more anise and black licorice type notes. Some good stuffing that I can imagine this coming together quite a bit in 10 years or so.

Assessing Bordeaux 2015 from bottle, part I; 11/2/2017-11/3/2017 (Bordeaux): While I really enjoy the Tourelles, this wine I respect. But really, I wonder why bother to make a lesser version of the Baron in the first place. It is only slightly lesser I guess, but lesser. The Tourelles serves the nice purpose of being a smoother and richer style. I suppose Griffons is "intermediate"? It is certainly quite austere for now, with a majority of Cabernet aged 18 months in 60 percent new oak. Director Jean Rene Matignon explained that it is part of refining the selection for the grand vin (which I later tasted blind along with other 2015 Pauillacs). OK.

Intriguingly Pauillac #Bdx15 (Bordeaux, actually tasted during en primeur week): Yet again, I got a lighter impression from this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot than what I had experienced with the 2014 last year. More red than dark fruit, and not as “big” a style. The tannins seem softer and more elegant, and I enjoyed the refinement. Nice job! 90-92

Made from a vat selection before the blending of Pichon Baron, this wine offers supple tannins, fresh cassis, blackberries and plums. It is softly textured with a purity of fruit much improved over previous vintages. Even though the blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine will be enjoyable on release or it could also age for a few years. 89 - 91 Pts
