25th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Lyon Down Inn): 95+ in this tasting, it just took everything up a notch from the Behrens before it. My notes are getting cryptic: "Lovely" "smooth" "integrated" "blend?" "now and later!" "Merryvale?" 94 on day 2.

Decanted briefly. Better after an hour and kept improving. Beautifully blended red with silky, full body, savory red and black fruit, herbal, stony minerality. Very enjoyable. Probably at peak but no rush.

4th Saturday Group: Uptown Brown Bag: Double blind. Deep garnet/crimson color with notes of clay, plum and black berry fruit. Balanced. Plum and black fruit flavors with medium tannins. Has a subtle herbaceous undertone. Lingering finish with hints of vanilla. Very nice; well-balanced. Guessed Napa cabernet. (T&L)

Interesting developments in the bottle, open subtle but after an hour decant into a bang. Beautiful notes of complexity, plenty of sediment maybe another year or two.

A 2 oz. pour at a wine tasting with a 2105 Soujourn GIII and a 2016 Odette cab. This was not decanted and sat in the bottle for 30-60 minutes before being served. This was dark purple in color but the nose was very muted. It did develop a little with 10 minutes of swirling in the glass. For me, this was more of an old-world style and I am more of a new school guy. A decent bottle but at $150+ not a buy for me. My least favorite wine.

DIscover VINO - Fine wines corner; 5/11/2018-5/12/2018 (Sofia): Quite solid, this is bursting with depth and power but in such a nicely shaped and precised way that greatness is easily recognisible. Tannins firm and solid meet the mixed berries and dark chocolate flavors in a balanced Bordeaux quality way, great wine. Blend is 83% CS, 12% PV, 5% CF.

Too early, and I decanted 4hrs+, but needs to stay in the bottle much longer. Still, a solid wine with very good depth and structure. Potential to move to 93. Notes of blackberry, leather, graphite and blackcurrant. I actually tasted this with a blackcurrant jam as part of a meal, and the similarities were quite striking. Hang on to this one.

This concentrated and inward wine needs a few years to come into its own: at the moment, it's nowhere near as enjoyable as the 2012, though - perhaps - it has the density and structure to become something special. Dark burgundy in color, medium in body, powerful aromas of black cherry, pencil shavings, and rosemary. Tastes of blackberry, leather, pepper, and cedar, with a tannic bite (even after several hours of air) that sends a clear message: let this one age. 14.8% alcohol. Compared to the 2012 - which I thought was stunning (95 points - 3/17) - the 2013 is far more raw, tight, and backward, with none of the chocolate, blueberry, or creamy nature of the 2012. Blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. This may be great someday down the road, but it isn't ready now. A little better on second day.

Pretty much what you would expect of a $200 Napa Valley Cabernet, highly extracted, deeply colored, intense ripe fruit and decent acidity, integrated oak that still trumps all other flavors, tannic yet approachable. Would love to taste in 5 years.

Last bottle. Opened into a floral blitz after an hour. Quite elegant and probably as good as it will get.

Brilliantly complex and developing. Day two showed very earthy elements. Angry tannins but lovely none the less
