Well made elegant Chardonnay. Heavy on the front palete without the depth of some of the really good Cal. Chards I have had. It is a wine that probably has a few more years in the bottle, but without developing a better balance. Plenty of honey and stewed apple, enjoyable and good with food, but not spectacular.

Purchased off the list at Uncle Yu's in Lafayette, a Chinese restaurant with a good wine list. Served chilled. A somewhat watery entry with a medium to heavy mouthfeel. Grass and honey notes with a refreshing clean finish that was also lacking focus. The finish just sort of wandered off without really being resolved. Fair to Good

Euchre: Tasted along side the '05. The 05 is oak forward and lush. This is more reserved and a bit more french like. It, however, lacked some character. Still a good drink but on the downward side of the peak.

Yellow, vibrant rim. High intensity of aromatics with coconut, lemon, and significant new French oak spices exceeding subtle minerality/lees/malo elements. On the palate dry, moderate + acidity, oily and very thick midpalate, good phenolics which support the finish as it tapers off... moderate to high alcohol. Very good balance with the acidity managing to balance the sweetness from the alcohol/ripe fruit and the high amount of oak balancing the high ripeness of fruit. The wine has high intensity, moderate length and complexity. The wine lacks the finesse and texture of the world's outstanding and above Chardonnays IMO though is a very well made wine, especially in the very ripe fruit, high intensity style. The wine improved slightly the second day so I imagine there is still the capacity to improve over the next year or two max.

Lots of oak and some citrus. Aging has made this very rich and I struggled a bit drinking it without food. The oak and oils in this really needs some balance. Roasted chicken or veal would be a good pairing.

Drank alongside the 05 and the 06 See's Selection. Lots of cinammon, lemon and subudued minerality on the nose. Quite opulently textured with buttery oak nicely blalanced with even more intense limestone minerality on the palate. Quite a long and perseistence finish. My second favorite of the 3 - the table was evenly divided between this and the 06 See's Selction as their favorite of the Dehlingers.

Bright golden color and clear in appearance despite being bottled as “unfiltered”. Aromas of vanilla, Meyer lemon, apricot, and white flowers, dominate the nose. A rich and balanced palate of creamy lemon pudding, light citrus, honeysuckle, and orange blossom show, with a modest mineral character. Buttery vanilla oak folds in on the close. Medium to full bodied yet with bright fruits and light acidity, this 2004 is drinking very nicely right now.

Nice, light straw color, with good clarity for an unfiltered wine (if that makes sense?). I like the acidity, and also got the floral characteristics that others noted, but it seemed a bit over-oaked, and somehow out of balance, so I was disappointed (relative to my high expectations for Dehlinger).

Brief rundown of my experience with this wine. First bottle about six months ago was very good with nice California fruit and lightly oaked. Dont remember if we had it with food but remember it being very good, and was glad I was on Dehlinger's list. Second bottle about 3 months ago and thought that I had a corked bottle. Dumped half down sink. Tonight tried 3rd bottle and the first impression was "corked again"? There was no fruit on nose or palate. It kind of reminded me of an older Burgundy. Kind of chalky. Pulled out the cheese and wine took on a completley different life! This the most "Burgundian" in style of any wine i have tried from California and I love it. With food it had a hint of tropical fruit, well balanced with a little acidic kick and not much oak detectable. Continued to rock after pasta with goat cheese dinner. Wonderful California chardonnay for not too much $$$.

new mailer arrived so I thought I'd give one a try to see if I should re order. Too much oak, soft mid palate and short finish. Varietal correct but lacked the acid that I need in white wines. Too much oak, too much butter and softness.

Pale yellow color. Nose is dominated by lemon zest, white flowers and custard aromas. Really very lemony on the palate with a hint of pear followed by jasmine and crisp green apple. Solid, and completely dry finish. Fermented in 60 gallon French oak barrels (50% new/50% old), but it's hard not to imagine this being an all steel fermented wine that never saw any oak, much less new oak. Fantastic wine for those who love the pure expression of Chardonnay fruit. It's a 1 part to 3 parts blend of See's and Wente Clone Chardonnay. I would bet that many would peg this as a burgundy instead of California Chard. Best Dehlinger Chard I've ever had.

Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. Bottle provided by Frank Noble. Bright disc. Medium yellow robe with clear rim. Clean, quite intense nose of lemon, wet stones and peaches. Medium-bodied on the palate, with excellent acidity, light oak and similar flavors as the nose. Long, crisp finish. The acid and minerality of this wine make it very Burgundian in character...I guessed that it was a 2004 Puligny-Montrachet premier cru.

This is drinking great. Firm structure, lots of minerals and just a bit of mature oak, but nothing that obstructs the flavors. Finishes with a little citrus. I agree with the prior remark that this is more French Burgundy than California Chard in style. Drank with huge sautéed Sea Scallops.

Another satisfying vintage for Dehlinger's chardonnay. I see no particular necessity for California chardonnay to drink like Burgundy... but this one does. For now, a somewhat reticent nose of white flowers, green apple and a hint of brioche. The medium weight palate follows through with green apple, a slate-like mineral quality and some darker nut elements lurking in the back. There are some (to me) unobstrusive oak elements. The finish is very nice. I would mistake this for a top notch villages or even a premier cru burg. Very satisfying food wine. Not a blockbuster, doesn't call attention to itself... just a wonderful wine that accompanies the right meal beautifully. I'll be interested to follow its development over the next year or so.
