2011 Red Blend: Epoch Estate Blend: 54% Paderewski & 46% Catapult Vineyards, Paso Robles: 38% Syrah, 24% Grenache, 21% Mourvèdre, 10% Tempranillo & 7% Counoise: 1,230 Cases: While all my wine equipment is packed away was a perfect time to have a cork disintegrate during opening. Plastic fork filtering and a bit of patience gave way to a love aged ruby with brown hues. On the nose wine was past a fruit phase some notes of dark red fruits, but aromas focused on plum, licorice, earthy & rustic notes. Despite the age wine was in good balance still enough acidity, but we found we enjoyed it more without our meal. On the palate some additional muted red fruit notes and additional spice to compliment the earthy licorice tones on the nose. Wine is probably just past absolute peak drinking, but a fun wine nonetheless. If you have any of these, I wouldn’t wait. . Wine Making: Fermented in concrete and stainless-steel tan, puncheons and one-ton bins, Aged 17 months in 47% new French oak.

The fourth bottle we've opened over the last ten years and still wonderful, and a perfect pairing with multiple foods. Black raspberries, plums, black cherries, chocolate, licorice. earthiness, and some spice in the nose. Flavor like the nose with black raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and licorice. Medium to full bodied wine, very well balanced, nice complexity, and a long velvety finish. 94-95

This was better than the bottle that I tried in the beginning of May. Again, I opened, fought with a broken cork and then poured through a vintorio. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate was dark berries with a hint of raspberry and touch of orange leading to a moderately long finish. Served with simply grilled steaks on a really nice NJ evening.

I am a huge Epoch fan but this one was hugely disappointing. Had a decent nose but the palate was one dimensional and lacked any sort of pizazz. Some fruit and not much acid. Tasted over two days and not much changed about it. Bummer

the 2011 Ingenuity has evolved significantly over the last two years, more rounded, open and has grown bolder with no flab. 2011 was a cool year which made for a difficult harvest for so many wine makers. Jordan F. the winemaker found the magic and, with time (like now) brought this GSM blend together. Its lush, fruit driven (as all hers are) and nicely spiced. My guess is that it will drink wonderfully through 2021.

Similar to notes before with black cherry, boysenberry, and blueberry fruit. Nice balance here with some licorice notes and subtle earth. Petite Sirah really comes through here with some big flavor at the end. Nice long finish.

55% Syrah with the rest a split of Grenache, Mouvedre, and Petite Sirah. Decanted for 6+ hours. Dark fruits dominate along with spices. First time having the Ingenuity. Nice wine, but not at the top of my list in the Epoch lineup.

Loved, Loved, Loved it. Drank over 2 days, with assortment of grilled meat and veggies. Typical of most Epoch, it doesn't need food, but in this case, that wasn't an issue. It was gripping on the start but the fruit and tannins had really come together. Dark dark fruits, leather, pepper, nothing over the top. Inky!

Tasted this wine just a couple of weeks ago at the tasting room. Fell in love with it then, loved it again last night! It is just a sumptuously gorgeous blend of all the flavors I love in a wine. It was darker in the glass than I remembered it being at the tasting room. Maybe that was due to the brilliant light from the setting sun in Kauai. It was essentially PnP. (Took it to the restaurant early so they could decant it. Fortunately they had not yet done so because when our server brought the decanter to the table, the bottom of the inside of the decanter was covered with dishwasher soap scum! Poor form!) The nose was intoxicating with bright red and blue fruits. We let it sit in our glasses for about 30 minutes before tasting it. On the palette we got the same red and blue fruits, but with a lot of depth and balance. The mouthfeel was lush and the finish was long. This is a gorgeous wine! Must get more!! Side note: The previous night's wine was a 2004 Joseph Phelps "Insignia." Sorry, but this wine easily outshone the Phelps.

Tasted over two days, better the second. Full of blackberry, blueberry, anise and spice on the nose. Tannins still chalky and assertive but not overbearing with good lingering acidity, full mid-palate and good length. A surprisingly high quality wine from a cooler Paso Robles vintage. A testament to the strength of Jordan Fiorentini's skills and the Paderewski vineyard.

Tasting at Epoch Wines (At the Winery - Outside of Templeton, CA): A Syrah/Grenache/Mourvedre/Petite Syrah blend that shows almost black in the glass with dripping legs. Slams into the palate like a freight train but with ballet slippers that keep things in check. Spicy cranberry, boysenberry, kirsch and ripe peach notes. A full, yet refreshing, finish that reveals some cinnamon and licorice.

Visiting Epoch last year I was really impressed with their 2011 lineup. Interestingly enough it was the first year Jordan Fiorentini managed the wines from vineyard to bottle - I assume that is no coincidence. So on a Monday when my wife says "Are we opening something good tonight?" we had to take a trip back to Paso. The wine has a great brightness without being overly tart, with a plum component that I really enjoyed. Agree with other reviewers is that it is hot on the finish right now but that should integrate with time. Overall this reaffirms what I tasted a year ago.

Made the relative mistake of tasting a day after Saxum Broken Stones, which carries a similar makeup and profile. Gave it the same treatment (about a day in decanter) and there are two main differences (ignoring price). #1 - the Petit Verdot that is heavier in this shows up as a clunkier filler than what you get in Broken Stones. #2 - the mouvedre of Saxum really added a depth that isn't here. That's not to say it is a crappy wine, it really isn't, and has a nice acidity beneath it, but it needs a little to get to Paso elite.

Popped and poured last night and save two glasses for tonight. Hot! I have had 15+% wines before but few have tasted and smelled this hot two days in a row. We opened it at dinner out and I thought it would burn off the next day so we saved some. It didn't burn off and I didn't even finish my glass tonight. My wife tasted the alcohol but was not put off by it as much as I was. We have one more bottle and will hold it for a few years to see if it cools off a bit.
And based on the other reviews posted so far, this might have just been an off bottle so I will not score it. Especially since I usually agree with Bob Milton on wines.
