  • Plums, blackberry, crushed rocks and violets on the nose. Complex flavors of black and blue fruit, mocha, spice and a 30-second finish filled with minerality and black cherry fruit

  • Another stunning wine from Hundred Acre. Best if decanted for at least 3 hours. Wonderful aromas of black cherry, violets, black raspberry, graphite and licorice. Big black fruit on the palate with a complexity found in most Hundred Acre wines. Grippy tannins that led the way to a 30-second finish.

  • Nose- very discreet, dark, berries, cigar wrapper. Not as complex but still quite nice.
Nose- minty, dark berries, chocolate, velvety tannins, medium acidity, impeccable balance. Very seductive. A touch young. Wow!
Improved dramatically after an hour or so.
A few more years and I may rate this higher.

  • My goodness what a difference two years can make. This wine seemed awkward and light about two years ago (10/20 - 93 points), but now it has become integrated and downright elegant. Light red in color and medium in body, the wine offers floral stains of sour cherry, rose petals, and fresh raspberry. The flavors are similarly nimble, with notes of blueberry, dried strawberry, trail dust, and rhuvarb, with a lifted and elegant finish. 15.5% alcohol. This has hit a remarkable stride, and I think it should be even better in a few years. Whether it was bottle variation, bottle age, mood back then, this wine has become remarkable now.

  • Drank with the GO Ski guys at Splendido, decanted for 4 hours spectacular

  • Decanted for 2 hours, but it could have used 4. Aromas of vanilla, crushed rocks, black cherry and violets. On the palate, enormous amounts of black fruit, some blueberry, chocolate and coffee. Firm tannins that got smoother with food and time in the glass, and carried tasty minerality through a 30-second finish. Bravo, HA!

  • Notes of crushed rocks, vanilla, black cherries and blueberry pie. On the palate, an array of black fruit with an earthiness, minerality and healthy tannins that give it an extremely long finish.

  • This ripe but high-toned Cabernet may need a few more years, since right now it is surprisingly light in mouthfeel and tart in flavor (almost like a modern CA Pinot). Translucent red in color and medium in body, the wine offers intriguing aromas of black cherry, ripe strawberry, and fresh peppercorn. The flavors are less full, with notes of boysenberry, raspberry, rose petal, and bay leaf, followed by a tannic and silky finish. 15.5% alcohol. Maybe this is in an awkward phase, but this wine is currently more delicate than complex - and definitely not worth the money. Docked a point for price.

  • Nose: White florals, cool blue fruits, ripe dark red fruits, fresh forest floor, dry clean oak that leads into some eucalyptus. The earth deepens with time along with some pencil shavings. The fruits also eventually turn into soft dark purple fruits.

Palate: Pure flavors of bold, rich and deep earth with some graphite and almost savory buried oak. The earth envelopes the dark red and cool blue fruits with a light lacing of clean minerals.

Attributes: Clear, medium dark ruby. Dry with medium-plus to high amounts of strong, grippy tannin. Medium body with medium-minus acidity. Great finish of ~30 seconds.

Thoughts: Very rich and flavorful with a great amount of energy. Surprisingly approachable now with a little bit of air time. Try a glass or two first and allow the rest to sit for a while as it seems to change and deepen with some time. The first few glasses seemed almost cool, refreshing, sparky and slightly minty. With some time in the glass, the other flavors deepen some, becoming more dark fruited and earth based. The refreshing aspect found initially is not quite lost but just not as prominent anymore (and not in a bad way). The energy is maintained throughout as the fruit softens a bit and as the deep earth emerges more. Still young and kinda primary as the flavors seemed to be mostly clean, deep earth and pure fruit based with oak and graphite trailing behind. I was going to say I was expecting a lot more given the price but I realize it's still so young. Time in the bottle should allow the flavors, and hopefully more flavors, to develop. Give this at least 4-5 more years if you can before trying. Rating was upped a point for its long finish but almost too primary for the high tariff.

Other notes: No decant, time in glass only (maybe an hour if you must). Served ~64°-65° and eventually to 67°. Consumed over 2 hours.

  • My taste has veered away from Napa Cabs the past few years but, nonetheless, this wine had its virtues. Very dark in color, the nose and palate overflowed with black cherry, cassis, and hints of redder fruits. More acidity than I expected. The tannins were surprisingly round, and the finish was long and complex. Definitely one of the better wines in the "bruiser" category. For fans of the style, this is a winner.

  • 5th in the K Laz Lineup
As soon as you get close to the glass you know this will me a monster. Lush cherry explodes upwards, warm inviting. The wine has a deep ruby brown hue to it. Warm and almost slightly bubbly on the narrow entrance. It quickly widens out, with a beautiful opulent and sophisticated coating of your mouth. This is an incredibly complete and well put together wine, with noticeably reduced tannin for its power. Ready to go now, but will age so gorgeously!

  • Hundred Acre is a Winnie the Pooh reference.

9 acres, right off of Silverado Trail. Valley floor fruit, Phillipe Melka runs a soil test and says it’s like Petrus. Paid 70% over market value for the site.

Lots of cinnamon spice to the aromas. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 24-30m in barrel, new French. 15.5% ABV. Chinese five spice aromas. Sweet honey, sweet barrel tones in the aroma. Very enjoyable fruit expression on the finish.

    Has an optical sorter 😒.

Doesn’t rack his wines, doesn’t top his barrels. Doesn’t even thief the barrel for 2 years.

  • A big thick Cab, needs at least three more years. Tannic but a huge mouthful of fruit, will be a top CA Cab eventually and last for 15 years.
