  • Purple, opaque. Nose is tobacco, earth, dark fruit. Lush mouth feel, silky tannins, and a long finish. In no hurry but ready to drink

  • Solid QPR. 1.5 hour decant (any less and it is too tight). Nose doesn't offer much outside of ripe plums and black raisins. Full body. Heavy minerality, dark cherries, sweet plums, fine tannins. Medium, pleasant finish.

  • Bright purple color. Beautiful nuanced and complex flavors. Lots of chocolate and black tea and Asian spices. Very nice structure. Just a terrific well-made wine.

  • Intense purple color. A huge gorgeous nose of violets and blueberries jumps from the glass. Fine but firm tannins suggest a long life ahead. Obviously still very young and will undoubtedly improve with another 5-10 years in bottle. The fruit is intense with a long finish but the wine is not heavy at all. This might merit an even higher score with more time.

  • Plum Market Luxury Wine Tasting. Black and dark red fruit - blackberry, black currants, dark raspberry, and a little dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth/concentration. Nice rich flavors of dark berries and some spice. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Apparently the bottles were open for a couple hours before serving. WA anticipated maturity 2020 to 2040 which I believe makes sense to let the fruit open-up a little more with some additional time - although I'm sure a decent decant would help as well. A nice wine and I expect some improvement with more time but I was a little surprised when I later heard that Lisa Perrotti-Brown of WA rated this cab 98 points. 98% cab sauvignon and 2% petit verdot.

  • This polished and bright Cabernet is drinking fine right now, but it tastes a bit too linear to be that exciting. Cherry red in color and medium in body, the wine offers (somewhat muted) aromas of raspberry, fresh strawberry, and cloves. Tastes of blueberry, cranberry, rose petal, and graphite, with a pleasantly lingering, though somewhat tart, finish. Blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. 15% alcohol. A little better on second day, when it gained more thickness and depth. Wait until 2019 or later.

This wine is... meh. It's not bad, but it's not unique, either. You could swap out the top wines from any number of traditional producers (e.g., Mondavi, Krug, Beringer), and this would fall somewhere in the middle (regardless of what Jeb and Lisa say). This reminded me of an even more generic version of Quintessa - middle-bodied, dusty, and a bit indifferent. To mention another comparator, this had less fruit power than a Kathryn Hall 2015 I had last night, but the Raymond tasted just as concocted. There are a number of impressive, unique bottles of Napa Cabernet at the $125 price point, but I don’t think this is one of them.

  • Getting released at the winery tomorrow. 1000cs. Black fruit and some root beer essence. Plump dark raspberry. Cinnamon, bone dry, long finish. Concentrated and a real serious expression. Much more so than the 2014.
