  • Bedste Dolcetto jeg har smagt. The real thing.

  • Very cool dolcetto. Fascinating, strange smell of new diapers (sodium polyacrylate) or maybe baby powder! Dark fruit, medium tannins, definitely easy to drink. Paired with rice balls and red sauce. Delicious wine.

  • Made with grapes sourced from +45 yo vineyards located in Pajé and Carso Crus. Fermented spontaneously for 10 days with indigenous yeasts in large oak casks, part of the wine is macerated with the skins for 3 months. Aged for a year in neutral old oak barrels. 12,5% alcohol.

Pale, luminous and quite translucent ruby red color. Quite robust and heavily bretty nose with rustic aromas of manure, stable floor, some reductive notes of hard-boiled eggs, a little it of dark plummy fruit, light blueberry tones, a hint of leather and a sweeter touch of cherry marmalade. The wine is dry, medum-to-moderately full-bodied and quite rustic on the palate with flavors of cherry maarmalade, leather, some lifted VA notes of nail polish, a little bit of funky manure, light mushroomy tones, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a touch of brambly raspberry. The wine is quite funky and animal with crunchy acidity and very gentle and easy tannins. The finish is very gently grippy with dry flavors of leather, bretty funk, ripe sweet-toned notes of blackberries and blueberries, some sour cherry bittermess and a hint of raspberry marmalade.

A very wild, funky and characterful Dolcetto with wonderfully light and fresh overall style to contrast the more robust and bretty taste. At times the wine was perhaps a bit over-the top but as a whole it was surprisingly enjoyable for the style. Fun, funky stuff.

  • The wine needs about a half an hour of air, at which point the sharp smell of sulfur dissipates revealing a beautiful old school dolcetto with a strong whiff of leather, good acidity, and dark fruits on the palate. I love it. However, if you are a lover of big California wines, this wine may not be for you. Happily, this does not apply to me.

  • Pale, lustrous, translucent ruby color. Sharply acidic nose of smoke. I wonder if it needs to open: on first drinking, it's a little self effacing and retiring. Notes of butter and cherry and dark berries. Probably needs some time to grow.

  • [Chianti vs. Italy blind 5/6] poop on the nose - both the yogurty baby poop of newborns, and poop poop. Greenish on the palate, bitter leather, and still a significant bit of rough tannin [post-reveal: unpopular wine, so was glad to have a bit left over to taste on second day. Much better nose of mulch and violet, and a smoother, slightly riper, tastier palate. Good idea to decant.]

  • Excellent QPR. Has flavors of a much more expensive nebbiolo. A very enjoyable and easy drinking wine.

  • I'm unfamiliar with Dolcetto, and had this wine a few months back (I think it was the 2014) which struck me as dry, uninteresting, and a bit tannic. This time around I'm blown away! I love it, I could drink this all week long - classic nebbiolo flavors, earth tar herbs crushed violets... the fruit is a kind of cherry syrup - not artificial but not "juicy". Interesting, and amazing for the price!

  • I haven't tried a Dolcetto in awhile but I remember liking them. I didn't care for this one. Too much leather and earthiness for my palate. I didn't get much fruit at all on the nose or palate.

Day 3: I may have been too hasty in saying I did not like it. On Saturday I opened, did not decant, and drank with pepperoni pizza I made at home. Did not enjoy the wine. My wife says it's because I should have had a beer with pizza. LOL. Tonight, Monday, I finished the bottle with a dinner of roast chicken breast, roasted vegetables, and rice. I thought the wine was much more to my liking. Still not getting much fruit and it's seems tart on the finish, but there is a complexity to the wine that may just be beyond my experience. After years of allergy problems my nose is shot. I changed my vote to neutral and I would be willing to give this Dolcetto another shot.

  • This displayed a dark, moody and almost savory bouquet with wild herbs, roses, plum, and undergrowth. On the palate, it was amazingly soft for Dolcetto with caressing ripe blackberry fruits and brisk acid thrust. It finished floral with an attractive bitter twang of herbs and tannin. Wow, Dolcetto lovers take note.
