I am surprised and delighted by this. Opened 2 hours ago, the first impressions were: big palate, lots of tannin, bit of a chemical finish. Paired with pan- fried duck, it has developed into a really satisfying wine. Good nose, broad and long on the. Palate, finish still pleasantly acidic, but if this was a bordeaux, you’d call it iodine!
Bought this out of curiosity for the Pinotage grape since it’s supposed to be among the best labels available and carrying overall good grades. However the residual acetone smell and taste are there and I found it very off putting. I won’t ever be purchasing Pinotage again.
Wanted to cry at the last sip This wine was amazing full body beautiful purple color, very smooth. Should decant at least 2 hrs before would love to see how this wine evolves in a few yrs

Taste - 30 mins - perfectly balanced between fruit and tertiary flavours. Earthy with great soft tannins. After 1hr wine became all spice and earth very peppery with a lot of cassis and smoke.
Wine could improve a little but seems pretty resolved. Definitely decant for at least 30 mins. Maybe hold for a year or two, But no reason not to drink now. Not a stand out wine and at the price better wines to be found in the region. Although this grape is rare.

That kind of hedonist wine that gets you from the first sip. Ample sweetness and mature fruit in the nose, chocolate, port. Powerful, yet complex and well structured on the palate, offering ripe black fruit, leather, liquorice, plum, raisins, figs, herbs and exotic spices, ending in a crescendo of phenolic sweetnness. Bravo!

Good example of Pinotage, Kanonkop are reputed to be the masters. This is not their highest cuvee - but is a good wine. It's been a while since I tried a pinotage... you can taste elements of both Cinsault and Pinot Noir in this grape and it is like a cross between a Burgundy and a Chateau Neuf du Pape. Medium to full bodied, medium colour, soft tannins. Red and black fruit, some tar, quite powerful but not heavy. Nice and still young, though drinking easily.

Bright, lighter than I was expecting, lots of earthy fruit, clean crisp finish. Easy drinker. Nice. Kinda like a Pinot Noir but with more earth and spice and mushroomy flavors but lots of fruit there too.

Blackberry, blueberry, plum, blackcurrant, vanilla all around the edges and well integrated with the fruit. Rich, plush, but the acidity carries it well. The oak stands out a bit more than preferred. As always, solidly enjoyable

I really enjoy this. The grape itself I rarely find appealing, but Kanonkop does an excellent job. Deep, brooding fruit, some sweetness of fruit, but also, big brawny, savory flavors too. K does not like.

Medium nose shows dark fruits, black plum, spices, leather. Palate gives layers of oak, dark fruit, fresh earth, some game, fresh spices, baking spice, blackberry, coffee grounds, drinks very much like a modern or CA style wine with it's profile. Medium tannins, well balanced, great wine for New World drinkers looking for something different and fairly affordable.

Medium-light garnet color. Most of my prior experience with Pinotage has been with burlier, more extracted styles suitable for accompanying a braai. By comparison this was quite fleet, with a nearly Burgundian profile. Cheerful red berries swirled on the nose with lavender and violet floral aromas. There was also a subtle but distinct minerality, which was also present on the palate. This was energetic and young-tasting, with tart red fruit and moderate acidity, again underpinned by a more serious stony note. Delicious and very food-friendly, I'd be keen to see how this evolves over another 3-5 years.
