  • 2016 Mullineux Syrah Iron Kasteelsig

    A: Clear, medium garnet
N: Medium (+) nose of black pepper, prune, dried black cherries, dried red cherry, blueberries, mulberry, smoked wood, vanilla, baking spices, leather
P: Dry, medium acidity, tannin is powdery and medium (+), medium alcohol, pronounced intensity, medium (+) body and medium (+) finish
Aged nicely and tannins are softened. Some fresh fruit remaining. This could age well for another few years.
    $17

    Winemakers Blurb:
Grapes for the 2016 Mullineux Iron Syrah were sourced from a single parcel of 17-year-old organically-farmed, dry-farmed, bush vines on the rolling iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the “koffieklip” terroir – broadness and mid-palate. Whole bunches are put into open-top 500L French oak barrels and foot stomped to release some juice. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the skins for four weeks, with pigeage once per day. The Syrah is aged twelve months in 500L French oak barrels, 25% new, and then an additional nine months in 2nd fill foudre. 10 months of aging in bottle before release. ABV 13.5%, pH 3.80. 236 cases produced.

  • 2019 Château de l' Eperonnière Savennières Croix Picot

    A: Pale gold
N: Pronounced nose of lemon, grapefruit pith, yellow apples, Sharon (persimmon) fruit, physalis (golden berries), peach yoghurt, orange blossom, honey, ginger, wet stone
Dry, high crescendo acid, medium alcohol, medium (+) intensity, medium (+) body, long finish
The acidity and presence of honey and lemon would lead me to CB. It's dry and not very ripe and has good wet stone and lack of oak which lead me to Savennieres. Honestly, I like this stuff. A balance of fruit concentration and acid. Ideal length, sound intensity and has complexity given more than 5 descriptive clusters. $32/bottle amazing.
