High Acidity High Tannin High Alcohol Medium Bodied Long Finish
Medium (+) Intensity Red Cherry, Red Plum, Smoke, Tobacco, Thyme, Rose, Tea Leaves, Mushroom, Leather
Sour red fruits, earthy, smoky, not particularly floral, strong grip on the tannins, complex yet still young, fine to drink now, but will definitely improve over the next decade.

Had at heritage in ft lauderdale Eclectic Italian food went well together Initial fruit forward and earth turned into all earth and no fruit at all after an hour but 30 min. later gentle fruit and earth in elegant harmony Always a wow wine for me with only wonderful memories Ethan could only stare and watch as he was driving home

At Il Duca, East Melbourne. Two bottles with consistent notes. Drunk after a brisk decant this wine had a deep cherry red colour and a bright nose of dark cherries, touches of wild strawberries, rose and Darjeeling tea. The palate is mid weight and well balanced with a fine but distinct line of tannins balancing the lovely fruit. There is a bright touch of cumquat in the mix at the end that adds some extra zest. Overall this opened very well on the night.

after trying a 1964 Pio barolo this afternoon had to open this up for the evening guests this was opened up 4 hours before drinking it remained unyielding until 12 hours when some fruit emerged nice to try and so much potential but way too early to touch these

I'm not really a fan of this producer. Don't get me wrong, I've tried to see what others see (but since I'm oblivious to points, wait, I digress). I've tried these wines every year for more than ten years, and my take-away is consistent - they're not reaching their full potential. But all that is different with their 2013 Oranto, and to a lesser extent, their other Barolo in this vintage. Not something I'll seek out, but it's certainly something I would drink if offered a glass. Good now, likely to get much better once it fits more properly in its britches; likely a wow wine for some, more so if they see the label ;-) The current CT drinking window says 2020-2030. I'm guessing this will be drinking well long beyond that date. recommended
(Decanter Fine Wine 2017) :: N: great purity and precision. Feminine and well balanced. Expressive with tones of roses and violets. P: Tight, fine but pronounced tannin; high acidity. Wait a 5+ years.

Pio Cesare (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): Medium minus intensity initially, brooding, dark, black fruit; plums but also berries, and slight five spice. Juicy medium plus acidity, more five spice here over muted dark fruit which is rather swamped by the robust, drying grippy tannins. The fruit does persist beneath this though. What a beast.
