This wasn't as impressive as the first bottle. Dark in colour, with deep red fruits and only a hint of game. Similar on the medium-full bodied palate, with solid tannins and a prick of acid. Needs time I assume (B+/A-).

From second night open. Deeply coloured, with a bit of game, iron, plums and herbs on the nose; also a bit of grape jelly as well. Similar flavours on the concentrated, along with chocolate and black olives on the medium to full bodied palate, with a silky texture, and nice ripe tannins. Still young I think, but tasty with air; better on the second night (A-).

Consumed at a wine evening with a range of discerning wine makers and lovers. Opinion mixed. The professionals' opinions were mixed;trained to find minuscule faults. The lay people loved it. A nice balance of fruit, acid and tannin.

Clear medium light red. Funkier nose then previous bottle, earthy, herbal berry fruit, medium richness. Dry rich berry and pepper flavours and a rich tannic finish.
Should improve.

This takes a bit of time to unfurl. Tight concentrated nose at first , dry berry fruit that loosens up after a couple of hours to show some meat, earth and red cherry fruit. Very tannic.
Needs 5+ more years.

Masterclass “Comparing Characteristics of New World vs Old World Wines” (Resorts World Sentosa): A deep purplish hue. Floral aromas of a lily garden, and some leaves and earth, as well as cured meats. Tannic and acidic, and has some edgy feeling, floral, grassy, yet with sweetish lingonberry like the sweet jam we get at Ikea that goes with their meatballs. Finished with strawberry and cola. Interesting

This is a seriously good wine. Delicious and balanced, tastes expensive. Great concentration and fruit. Already amazing, looking forward to tasting my remaining 2 bottles in a few years.

Pungent! Let it breathe for a half hour, then got great blackberry/blueberry fruit with a VERY heavy black pepper note- the classic olive/bacon fat syrah notes are there too, but very subtle. Those olive/meat notes largely blew off after some time in the decanter, which in turn heightened the fennel notes (really more fennel than licorice candy in my opinion), as well as a dark, gravelly mineral quality. There are some menthol notes, but more on the palate than the nose; the fruit is pretty cool and relaxed, even with the fairly heavy tannins.
A friend tasting with us said it was almost "waxy" like chapstick- given the fairly dense and menthol-laden sweet fruit, I could see where she was coming from with this interesting note.
Unique among a few recent Crozes bottlings (including Graillot and Bouvet "Alberic") in that it was definitely ready to drink- a few years would give it a little more drive, but it doesn't feel closed off at all at this point. Full of beautiful Syrah fruit. Got it for around $30, a great price, although I wouldn't have felt $40 was unfair, especially if you've got the patience to let it nap.

Rhone Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 100% Syrah from Delas-owned vyrd plots "...on benches known as the "Chassis", formed at the junction between the rivers Isère and Rhône." 100 cs imported to U.S., per WS.
P: Med body; NICE, almost swtish frt fairly quickly met by a puckerish astringency which QUITE loses the bulk of its bite by the LONG, still somewhat puckerish finish but with a mild swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins. Deserves/NEEDS until '20, then drinking for 3+ yrs more. My VG+/EXC-. 93 pts WS, 92 pts ea Wine & Spirits, Jeb Dunnuck, & Decanter, 91 ea Vinous, WA, & Suckling, and 17+/20 Jancis Robinson! [This vendor's $31.95 is VERY competitive!]

Drinking very nicely. Slight vegetal nose, smooth tannins, would recommend decanting for a couple of hours to allow it to open up.
