classic Cote-Rotie markers are already creeping in, with few hours of air - smoky raspberries, blackberry and blueberry, olives and bacon. Violets and black pepper. Palate has med+ tannings, that are very fine and seamlessly integrated with correct level of acidity.. mineral, peppery finish with tiny hint of green stems/olives. Still very primary but also a pleasure to drink. Very clear bottle, so I do not find funky side as in some previous notes. Well balanced wine, with very good future potential, still bit too young for my taste.

It has been six months since I last tasted this wine, and I must say, it's now living up to my expectations as a Saint Cosme. However, I've noticed a quality issue with this particular vintage. There seems to be a bottle variation that I haven't come across in the past. It's unfortunate to see such inconsistency in a wine that I've always held in high regard.

Matte purple/ruby, slightly cloudy. Smells like Syrah to me with a blend of pepper and spicy floral aromatics. Bright but with a slight underlying funk. Nice density to the palate and an impressive finish with respect to the intensity and impression. Saturated dark berry flavors and black olive. Drinking quite primary. N1 impression is this is nice; a little more weight would be good for my preferences, this is more elegant than masculine right now.
Predictably, it's showing better on night 2, very yum. I think this is in the early stages of its window.

Unfortunately, I’ve also had an unusual experience with this wine. I don't recall anything off about the bottle I had last year, but this one had hints of flaws unlike any I've detected prior. Kind of oxidative but not really…it’s difficult to describe. I wonder what's going on with these? (Well stored in a temp/humidity-controlled cellar.)

Nez assez typé et agréable de syrah, violette, olives, ça se gâte en bouche, un peu diffus, sans aucune émotion et une bouche peu avenante et peu agréable.

Just like a bottle opened in December, 2022. It was awful. As I said in a tasting note at that time, I would report in on this current bottle. The earlier bottles were very good. I have had it too long for damage during shipping to be a realistic cause. ......and the bottles have been well stored. As I said last December, the only time I have had this type of experience in the past has been with one or two other Rhone wines.

Beau cote rotie. Bleuet, violette, bacon, cote sanguin. Les tannins sont fins et bien présent, l’acidité soutient le tout pour apporter une certaine fraicheur. Définitivement trop jeune, mais va se bonifier avec le temps. La prochaine dans 5-10 ans.

This bottle was undrinkable junk. Two prior bottles were rated 93-94 by me. One was consumed just over a year ago. This bottle was well stored. The conventional wisdom is that this wine has a good drink window left. Maybe that is not the case. I have had a couple of other Red Rhones roll over quickly in the past. I will try another bottle soon and report on it. There was no hint of a problem.....like a bad cork.
One other comment.......my notes from the last bottle say that there was one glass of the wine left for the second night and that it did not hold up well. Perhaps that is a hint to what is going on.

Rhone Rumble w/ JKW; 1/22/2021-1/23/2021 (Old Home of Woodward): Two in a row correct. It stood out for being a bit bigger / younger in this group. Big black fruit, licorice, iron, stone, florals and meat. Tannins obvious but smooth. Great QPR from the region. Now-2030.

Similar to the last bottle I opened. The bottle was open for about an hour an a half with no decant. This bottle was a little more on the deep/dark side than with the earlier bottle. One bad note......one glass was left for the second night. It did not hold up well.

88-89 pts
Had at a restaurant.....open for 45 minutes; no decant. I agree with other recent tasters of this wine. The terms others have used.....such as fresh, bright, dark berries resonate the most with me. Drinking very well right now. This wine lives up to the Pro Review Ratings.

Meaty, fresh, bright, peppery and lush, with a core of dark, sweet cherries, raspberries, licorice, smoke and flowers. There is a softness to the tannins and a freshness to the layers of spicy kirsch in the finish. Another 5 - 7 years or so will really round things out here. For an ever-increasingly expensive appellation, this offers good value in the Northern Rhone.

PnP: Very dark wine, opaque in the center. Attractive aroma of roasting meat. Swirl brings out lovely sweet purple fruit and flowers and polished leather. Medium bodied. Quite tannic. Red fruited character - cherries and plums. Violets. But palate somewhat closed off. Good length with a jammy character. Tried again after leaving bottle open for a few hours and shuts down even more. Conclusion now is very intoxicating nose already but obviously will benefit from more time in the bottle and when it opens will be super (94-95 pt potential for me).

So wonderfully layered and nuanced, with noir fruit, sous bois, truffle, lilac, river rock and rosemary. A contrail of a finish, and an almost cashmere middle palate. So much intrigue and aging potential. The tannins have an engaging richness. 2020 - 2035.

Verging on defective. Turned mousy within an hour of opening.
